STNA: How Long To Pass State Test?

U.S.A. Ohio

Published

I took the STNA class, passed my tests, and completed my clinical. That earned me some certificates of completion, but I have yet to do the state test because I was in an accident and unable to do so. My teacher told me not to worry because I would have two years to complete my test before I'd have to start all over again.

My health is getting better, and I'm about ready to get this test done at my school, but now my friend, a medical assistant, told me that I only had 4 months to do my test by Ohio guidelines....so now I'm SOL. I'm freaking out and unable to reach my school during the weekend hours. Can anyone tell me if this is true? I can't believe my teacher would make such a terrible mistake with me and I have to spend another 1k and all those hours again. I checked my red book, but all I can find is that issue of doing so many hours so your license won't expire.

Thank you very much for all help!

First off it's NOT a license. Your name is placed on the State Nurses Aid Registry run by the Department of Health once you pass the written and skills tests. Secondly you have 24 months to take and pass the test once you complete the program.

Thank you very much for the link. I'm confused because I put in an application a few days ago and was told I needed my STNA license card first before applying. Not the first piece of inaccurate information I've received sigh~
