Well, I really appreciate everyone's feedback. I've decided to steer clear of Rets! I think I will wait to see if I get into Kettering and just keep plugging away at Sinclair. Thanks Everyone!

Just remember school is what you make of it. I know ppl who went to places like Kettering and Sinclair who lacked the knowledge, critical thinking skills, and just basic nsg judgement. :uhoh21: If you apply yourself and follow along with your NCLEX book and practice cd's you can walk away from RETS with the knowledge you deserve. Like I said it just depends on you as an individual and what you make of it.

Hello All, I'm new here and I'm considering going to Rets for the LPN program. I'm currently enrolled at Sinclair and waiting to see if I get into KCMA for Winter 08. However if I get into Kettering I'll have to quit my job which terrifies me! I recieved my MA from Rets back in 92 and swore I wouldn't wish this school on my worst enemy, however, I was young and immature then and totally agree with the poster that said you only get out of the program what you put into it. Even still, I am a little nervous to start Rets. I still have to take the 4 hr. test to get in. I intend to go during the Winter part-time provided I get in. I truly do not mean to offend anyone by asking this who is currently attending, but is it a good idea to go to Rets? Have things improved there? I find myself constantly going back and fourth. I have no clue what to do. I'm so lost. Thanks for your help!
I don't understand, why would you have to quit your job if you got to KCMA? Many students work and go there. I grad. in 92 i worked 3 jobs and went to school fulltime.

Monday the 2nd Rets got there accredidation. I don't think you can judge the school on how many people fail their boards ( 16 out of 40) because Rets goes ahead and lets ALOT of people slide through the program that really are not passing. They give too much extra credit so these people who are failing can pass. I get A's and B's without the extra credit and attend all of my classes. I dont skip school just b/c I want to sleep in. I think that needs to be considered. I do agree with you that there is alot of chaos and staff turn over, but you only get out what you put into the program.
Well, that does not sound kosher to me. It sounds like they let people slide through because it is a for-profit institution. Not very ethical, in my opinion.

Well, I just finished my 1st term and we had 30 people fail A&P so they cannot go on to 2nd term. There was no sliding by in that class I will tell you. One student failed by 0.8 points. We started with like 75 people and by the time the term was over we ended up with like 30.

I am just starting my 3rd term, believe me there was NO sliding through! No extra credit was given at all. You must pass all tests with a 78% to pass, homework is not included in that. Homework is a bonus that can raise you grade after you have passed tests with a 78%. They feel if you cannot pass the tests then you cannot pass the nclex. Nclex doesn't give extra credit, and nclex doesn't care if you have test anxiety. I personally know 2 people got kicked out last semester for cheating. It isn't tolerated. I guess anyone can say anthing they want unless they actually go there. But I actually attend RETS (right now) and can tell you that the sliding through and extra credit stuff is NOT TRUE. ( or everyone would make it). There have had a little teacher turnover that I know off.

I had that A&P teacher his first semester at RETs and you should of heard how badly all of the students talked about him! I personally had no problem with him and did fine in his clas bc I studied and paid attention. But you could see people really struggling in his class. He is an excellent instructor and so is the micro instructor they need more of their kind if the school wants to get their rep up. I'm done with my RN just waiting to take boards. Good luck to all that attend rets.

Congratulations on making it through and good luck on the boards! :balloons:
The bottom line here is studying and paying attention and this would be the case at any school, so if an opportunity comes up to go to RETS or another similar school comes up, I would encourage anyone to go for it. Regardless of the problems, it is still worth it to get that license!
I am done with school! Our class graduated DEC 13! I appologize for the negative things that I said about the school, guess I just needed to vent somewhere. By the way it sounds every school has there own problems rets may just have a few more, but they are new to the game. I wish everyone good luck with school and on their boards. I hope all of my class mates are successful and pass boards on the first try. After all of the problems at school it is nothing once your finished! One more step and my dream is reality! (Passing Boards). Good luck to all.
Hey-- congratulations. I am so excited for you. I am getting there! so exciting!
Congratulations on graduating. Good luck on your boards. Keep us posted!!
took boards today and got 75 questions! I really hope I passed. I thought the test was ALOT more difficult than my LPN boards I took about 18 months ago. I hope and pray I passed.
