New student here at Hondros

U.S.A. Ohio

First off, since this is my first post, I would like to say hello to everyone here! :w00t:

I have been trolling this site and forum for several months ever since I decided to make the switch to nursing school. I was at the University of Cincinnati for 3 years (2 years in business and 1 year in IT) before I decided to look into their nursing school. But their waiting list was over a year long. So after looking on here I saw the list of schools with no waiting list and saw Hondros on in. I just started my classes on Monday (Jan 7th) so I've only been in it for about a week now. But so far it seems good, the only thing I can compare it to is business and IT classes at UC. But if anyone has any questions about Hondros I would be more than happy to answer them for you. Also just FYI I'm taking my classes at the West Chester and Mason locations.

In regard to job placement assistance, as far as I know there isn't any. I'll be Level I Term 4 after finals next week and we have never been told about any such service. I have heard from students ahead of us there is some resume guidance in one of the last classes but that's it.

On a side note, those of you who are just starting at the school: I'm glad you're so excited and I sincerely hope that in the time Hondros has been operating they've ironed out the kinks that my class has had to experience.

I don't recommend the school to anyone who has asked me about it and I don't think anything they could do would change that. I feel that I've paid for the privilege of not having to deal with a waiting list, not a higher quality education, and if I wasn't tethered to a Sallie Mae loan courtesy of the school I would have transferred in the second quarter.

I think that upwards of $16,000 for a DIPLOMA is assanine and had I not been so carried away by the quick entry into the program I would have realized that waiting a little longer and spending half of that on my ADN at a public cc would have served me much better.

Just curious to know how the new students are feeling after attending orientation today. I didnt take away too much from it myself. although i did notice in the contract that they do offer job placement assistance and it was good to hear they offer tutoring for no additional cost. I wish we didnt have to wait one more month before starting classes. I am ready today. I didnt have time to wait in line for the books afterward and when i checked back later in the day they were completely sold out. Was anyone able to pick them up? Has anyone actually seen the nursing school they are building in west chester? i havent and couldnt even tell you where its located. Animal it was nice meeting you. M&M24 i couldnt pick you out of the crowd so i guess ill introduce myself next time.

To get to the West Chester campus: (if you're coming from east of 75) Go down Tylersville rd where it meets 75. Cross over 75 and you'll see a Meijer on your right. Turn right at that light and towards Meijer. Then you'll come to a T (with Meijer directly in front of you) turn right and follow that and you'll leave the Meijer parking lot and enter the Hondros parking lot. The new building will be obvious (the only one they are building right next to the Hondros one lol).

Hi Paul! It was nice to meet you, too! Overall, I was a little bored at the orientation. But I think it was because I've already spoken to Carolyn about most of the things that were discussed. I can't wait to get started, either! I guess I'll see you in a few weeks!:yeah:

Hi, Sorry I didn't get to meet the two of you but I didn't know who to look for. I'm sure we'll catch up in our classes.

I was hoping to get our student handbook in the orientation so we could get a heads up but it looks like we have to wait until we go to class. I printed off the 2008 catalog from the Hondros website to get an idea of their grading scales etc., but there may be some changes for 2009. Cincy guy, I didn't get my books either but I will probably call the school next week to see if they are in.

Talk to ya later!

I am starting the program in columbus and our orientation is not until the 30th. Did anyone get their kits yet? If so, how is the stethoscope? I have had several nurses tell me to invest in a good one. Any thoughts???

If the stethoscopes are the same from when I got mine in the kit then it will be decent. A lot of people in my class have Littmans but I can hear just about the same out of the one they gave me compared to their Littmans that cost a lot more. I would just use whichever you can hear the best out of.

i just finished term 1. if they don't give you your kit right away then they will give it to you either on your first or second lab day. in my opinion.. for what it's worth.... invest in the littman. the stethoscope that comes with it picks up on my finger movements and it is hard to filter out. An experienced nurse would do fine with the one they give us in the kit. But I had a hard time with it.. I have a Littman that someone gave me, but it needs new hose :( and that's like 40 bucks just for that.

Hey Paul and M&M! Have either of you been able to get your books yet? I haven't had a chance to call and find out if they've gotten any more in.

Merry Christmas!:candycane:

Hey Angela I stopped in last friday to pick them up but they were closed for their christmas party. I tried calling several times today and it went to voicemail so i am guessing they are out for the week. Let me know if you manage to get them. Hope everyone has a Merry Christmas...

Hi! Hope everyone had a good Christmas. I didn't get my books yet but I was wondering if anyone received a copy of the new enrollment agreement that we signed in the orientation? If not, what's taking so long. Besides the obvious price increase I think there was a change to the first paragraph where they omitted the level one and level two combination. If I remember correctly, they only gave us a choice of level one or level two in the new enrollment agreement with a statement that we may go on to level two if space allows. (this statement isn't in my original agreement) I didn't have my original enrollment agreement to compare while we were in orientation so I have been waiting patiently for the new one to come in the mail. This wouldn't affect anyone who is going for their LPN but it might make a difference to those of us who want to go onto RN. There may or may not be a waiting period by the time we finish the LPN portion. Unfortunately I signed the agreement where it stated that "I have received a copy of this agreement" (but of course we didn't at that time). So if you received your copy could you please let me know if I am remembering this correctly? Thanks and hope you have a good New Year!

Hi M&M!

I haven't been able to get my books, either. I'm hoping to get them sometime this week. I guess I just assumed the new agreement was the same except for the price increase. I kind of read over it, but since it was so similar, I didn't bother to really examine it. (I haven't received my copy yet, either.) Hopefully it won't affect us when we get ready to start the RN portion. I do remember Carolyn telling me in my admissions interview that they would call us for a meeting sometime during the last term to find out if we are interested in continuing on. Maybe they'll hold a spot for us during that time?

See ya in a couple of weeks!:yeah:
