Sreed, I also live in Michigan and was accepted into the Fall 2010 ADN program. What program were you accepted to and where do you live in Michigan?

I got accepted into the day ADN program. I live in Livonia currently. Not sure if I'm going to give up my condo and move down there or not. My family is there. This is a second career for me, as I'm 43 years old...! Where are you? Where did you take your pre-reqs? I've been taking them at Schoolcraft. I'm going to try and get Psy and Micro in this spring so I have less to take down there...

Hey Sreed and Ready2banurse! I also live in MI, currently in east Lansing attending MSU (thats why I asked about the area). I just got accepted into the 2nd year of the BSN program. When are you guys thinking about attending orientation? Im really nervous because I have two little ones so I have to check out day cares for my 1 yr old daughter and the school system for my 4 yr old son as well as look at apartments. I'm really scared about leaving my support system, but Toledo isn't far from MI so I just keep thinking that they're only a phone call away if I need them:)

Hi StarMickey:

Maumee is a nice place (that's where I grew up)...the school systems are really good and if you can rent a flat (they call them duplexes) in the historic section, I don't think you'd go wrong. There are quite a few nice areas, and some not so much. Let me know if you have any questions about locations....It's a bit cheaper to live down there which is nice. Car insurance is a 3rd of what it is up here! Everything has it's pros and cons....

Hi Sreed:

I've RSVP'd for the 17th of June. Good Luck in your program, I chose the ADN /evenings and weekend track. I'm overly excited...Good Luck!!!!!:yeah:

My RSVP is for June 14th. I wonder if all the classes will be full by then since we cant register for classes until we go to orientation. Im supposed to start out at the nursing courses so it would suck if I got stuck with all the bad time slots. But arent the BSN nursing courses all during the day?

To Peytonsmom,

Yes, that's the class I graduated with! It really was intense but I'm so happy I hung in there. I made some great friends and have a great basis from which I'm currently growing.

Best of luck to you in your journey at Mercy and beyond! Hang in there!

Shanyone - THanks!

Starmickey - My orientation was the very last one that was litterally the week before classes started and I was still able to get into classes at times that worked for me and I need night classes which are few and far inbetween.

Okay, I am looking at the ADN RN track, and the BSN track

The ADN track only has 8 NUR courses, while the BSN has like 18 NUR courses

If you go the ADN route, will you be adequately prepared to sit for the NCLEX test? They don't even offer the NCLEX preparation class with the ADN. But with the BSN they do

I also am curious about the success rate of those who go the ADN route and pass the NCLEX. I"m looking at the BSN and I feel that I'd be more well rounded as a RN and better prepared to take the NCLEX. The BSN has more NUR courses than the ADN. At a lot of the local community colleges in my area, the ADN has at least 12-14 NUR courses. At mercy I don't even see Pharmacology unless you're going the BSN route. I don't want to get the ADN and find myself going back to Mercy to get the BSN because I can't pass the NCLEX

Do you have any of the pre reqs done? I had them all done so they accepted me to the second year of the BSN track. So there will only be 3 years of nothing but nursing courses for me. I think that will be easier than going for the ADN and not having any pre reqs done and having to take 17 credits a semester. That seems like it would make the load extremely hard. But I feel like if you have the pre reqs done already then it would make more sense to do the BSN and just be there for an extra year, especially if youre going to want to get your BSN anyway. It just seems like the logical thing to do to me but it all depends on whats going on in your life. I know a lot of people go the ADN route because they offer the nights/weekends and they dont want to give up their jobs, have families, etc. But its up to you. They had an open house yesterday where they waived the application fee, couldve saved you $25:D

After the spring semester I'll have all of my pre reqs done and out of the way to apply to the ADN program. Except for Pathology. I'll be taking that over the summer. So the only courses I'll have is the 8 NUR courses which can be completed in like two or three semesters. I talked to someone at the school and they say that there are more slots available for the ADN than the BSN. More people are choosing the BSN.

For the BSN track, I have not taken Statistics, Computer, Humanities or College Algebra. I see they have a lot of computer classes

I had counted 18 NUR courses for the BSN track, why would that take 3 years? Wouldn't it take less than that?
