Hondros College of Nursing - Input??????

U.S.A. Ohio

Published

I am actively looking into Nursing Schools in the Cincinnati Area. I am starting the application process at Hondros and was wondering if anyone had any feedback about their program, good, bad or indifferent. I know its a relatively new program but they have recently receieved their final approval so Im assuming they have worked out the kinks that were reported in blogs posted early last year.

I would appreciate any feedback you may have.

Thank you!!

Yep, they were on there. I don't remember them being too difficult, but I would definitely recommend that you review the measurements and conversions. I remember the Roman Numerals being pretty basic. (I, V, X, L, etc.) I don't know if my entrance test was divided as LPN or not. When I applied, I had signed a different enrollment agreement which was a combination LPN/RN program. They had a price increase and had us all sign a new enrollment agreement at our orientation which had the programs separated with individual entrance tests.

School is still going pretty well for me. I have midterms this week, so we'll see if I'm still saying that next week! Good luck with your entrance test! Let me know how well you did!

Adie0321- I'm the one who started the other Hondros student thread about a year ago. If you have any questions feel free to PM me. I'm in my fourth term and will (hopefully) be graduating at the end of March with my LPN.

I forgot to mention that they are changing the way that you progress from the LPN into the RN program. You now have to re-apply to the school for the RN program and the requirements are a lot higher than they were for the LPN program. So basically you aren't guaranteed a spot in the RN class. Luckily for me there are 32 seats and only about 25 of us want to move on, so they will be letting in 7 students new straight into the RN program. (Animal I can PM you now, I needed to have 15 posts and this makes number 15 lol)

Timustang04 - Thank you so much for the feedback. Congrats on graduating the first part! I am getting so nervous! But before I get nervous about school I should probably worry about getting in first!!! ;) I will definately be in touch!

I've been looking into Hondros as a way to get into nursing. I like how they admit classes 4 times per year. I've wanted to get into the nursing field for some time now (personal reasons for it, not financial), but working a fulltime job makes it difficult. As it stands, I probably will not have my fulltime job for much longer. Rather than look at this as a detriment, I aim to treat it as a positive and get my butt into nursing while unemployed.

Enough about me, how about my question, eh? In looking at the Hondros program, I notice that after the LPN program you can proceed into the RN....If my math is correct, that translates into ~160 credit hours....Pretty stiff for an ADN. Am I looking at it right, or does the LPN take only the relevent classes to completing the ADN? Can one enroll in the ADN program directly without the LPN first? I guess I am confused....

Any help is appreciated!

HI Animal- Im sure you are busy with midterms, but I have been looking over the HESI study guide. I have been through three of the four sections and have completed all the practice questions at the end of each section with ease! Just out of curiousity I took a look at the practice test at the end of the book and was surprised at some of the questions! Are they really that difficult and sometimes off the wall? Should I study the metric system more? Sorry for all the questions! I cant wait until this test is finished!! :) GOOD LUCK ON MIDTERMS!

HI Animal! So I have survived my HESI Exam!! Next step is the interview, which Im going to try and set up next week or the week after. I was just curious about the interview. She told me to have questions ready to ask during the interview. I was wondering what kinds of questions you asked? I planned on asking their NCLEX pass rate and if they have study groups or tutoring sessions to help with our studies. But I kind of wanted some info from someone who has been through the process.

I hope your midterms went well! :nuke:

Hello Adie!

Congratulations on passing the HESI entrance exam! (I told you it would be fine!) I honestly don't remember what kind of questions I asked at my interview. The interview itself went pretty smoothly with a pretty even mix of questions from myself and the advisor. As long as you have a clean background check and all of your paperwork (and required immunizations, etc.) done, you'll get in. I guess it also depends on how high your HESI score was compared to other applicants, but I'm not sure about that. Oh, one more thing: If you're planning on using any type of financial aid to pay for tuition, make sure you start the process early enough to get it taken care of by the deadline or they absolutely WILL NOT let you start.

Good luck! Let me know how everything goes! :)

so, i have been looking into hondros for a good while now. i am currently a biology student at ohio state and am looking to enter the program in the summer or autumn next year at the columbus/westerville campus. i have a couple of questions of concerns that relate to myself but i do not see people addressing in their posts. right now my gpa is not stellar but i have a 2.6 gpa. now, this has been weighed down a town by some pretty hard courses ranging in the 400-600 level range. i have taken a&p and received a b in the first class and a c- in the second class. i do plan on taking them over again since it has been over 2 years since i have touched the subject. i also have taken anatomy that i recieved a b+ in. so, i have a decent a&p background. my issue is that i will not get in due to my gpa. they do not list a gpa requirement. has anyone that has had a prior college degree with a low gpa had issues to get in? also, is there a current waiting list for the program? i have seen that federal aid is being offered now, so i can imagine the greater influx of applicants. also, say if one finishes there lpn/rn has anyone had any trouble moving on to obtain a bsn at a major university (i.e. ohio state, ohio, otterbien, capital, toledo, akron, wright st. etc.)? that is what i would like to do in my final outcome is to obtain a bsn from osu specifically but, if another major university accepts me first that is where i will go.

thanks guys! hopefully i can join the hondros school of nursing without any difficulty or delay. :)

Hi patel.....I have a bachelor's degree in management but I graduated three years ago. To my knowledge, they havent mentioned anything about their GPA requirement. But I havent been accepted yet either!! They have information sessions a few different nights a week so it might not be a bad idea for you to attend to have these questions answered. Im sorry. I dont really have that much information for you. Hopefully someone else does, or like I said, if you attend an information session, it might be pretty helpful!

I am guessing they really don't look at your previous education from college unless you are trying to get credit for a class that you have previously took. I just might have to attend an information session to get all my specific question addressed.

Yea I think you are right. I know the few classes I might be able to transfer in they take into consideration how long it has been since you took the class and what grade you received. Good Luck. Let me know if I can help.
