Hondoros college-cincinnati

U.S.A. Ohio

Ok i recently decided after much thought to get into the field of nursing. I had a background and got an associates degree in computer networking and found that there was not really anything out there worth having in that field with what i had. So i decided to pursue nursing. I know a lot about nursing having friend and everything in the field. However, Hondoros college is kind of the new kid on the block here in Cincinnati and i was wondering how everyone experiences were with them getting set up with financial aid and once you got started how was it? Any feedback would be appreciated along with any advice?

Andrew

I have not heard anything specific about the school, other than nurses in local hospitals stating that nurse managers are not hiring nurses from these schools.. (Hondros, RETS now Fortis, Miami Jacobs...)Not sure the validity to this so take it with a grain of salt. Just beware that there are these sorta rumors flying around the area. Then again they are rumors....Like i said before, I would just research, research, research before I made a commitment to a new school with no foundation or roots in the community.

thanks for the advice emtoh.

If you guys hear anything about the school plz let me know.

Hi Rasengan, I just finished the LPN program at Hondros and will be starting the RN program in a few days. As far as the school goes...so far, so good. No one has takens the boards yet, but a few people already have jobs lined up once they become licensed. I know RN's that have graduated from Hondros and had no trouble getting jobs out of school. You are right about their accreditation. They are currently "candidacy" status through NLNAC, and they have up to two years to do what they need to do to make it official. They are NOT guaranteed the accreditation, but they are headed in the right direction! I had my doubts about Hondros, but overall I have been very pleased with the program. I do not remember exactly which schools Hondros has BSN agreements with, but I believe they are 4 or so. If (and when!) they get their NLNAC accreditation, credits should transfer to most schools in the area...that is how I understand it anyways. I know someone who graduated from Galen, a school that does NOT have their NLNAC accreditation, and he works ER at one of the top hospitals in the area and is currently getting his BSN through UC...so maybe there are ways around it? I'll let you know how the transition from LPN to RN goes. We have orientation in the morning, and the workload for the first term seems light. Best of luck with your decision, hope I was able to help! I'm around if you think of any other questions :)

Hey mitchsa, thank you for the information. I had my doubts too, but the more i look into it, i think its the right choice for me. I just passed my hesi on the 22nd of june, and am about to enroll into the school. How was the lpn work load? and does the school prepare you well for the NCLEX? And what kind of gpa/grades do u need to maintain to get into the RN program? my ultimate goal is to get a bsn. And my concerns were mainly for that. I do hope they get their NLNAC accred. and im pretty sure they will, they seem like they've been getting better by the year. Do you know anyone that has transferred their lpn or rn licenese out of state? if so, any idea how that transition works?

Best of luck to you with the RN program!!!

hi, I am also starting in October in Westerville. Moving from Arizona in August. :)

hey sarah, congratulations, hope to see you there. Have you attended a information session yet? cuz i havent lol

I am a student at the Westerville Campus. This is my first quarter. Any information that I can provide please feel free to contact me here or send me a PM.

hey patel, i got accepted recently, just wanted to see how u liked the school so far, and how the course is going for u. Questions were pretty much the basic,

1) if credits can transfer.

2) if i get the rn, how can i pursue bsn? do they have agreements with other schools

3) any news about the accreditation? can people work out of state?

Hey there Rasengan,

1. Credits do transfer. I graduated from Ohio State with my Microbiology Bachelors and I transferred in A&P, English, Psych and Microbiology

2. As far as agreements with other schools I have yet to find that out. I do know they have agreements with Indiana Wesleyan University to do an Online RN to BSN trek.

3. Accreditation. They are not NLNAC accredited...yet. They are going to be evaluated within the next two years to see if they can gain NLNAC accreditation. The way the program is running right now, I feel that they will achieve this. Their NCLEX-LPN/NCLEX-RN pass rates are high 92%/88% respectively. I hear nothing but positive things coming out of students farther into the program. Have had a few friends of mine complete the entire program and are working in the field just fine.

I will look into the working out of state question.

Anything else, don't hesitate to ask. As you can see I am quick back with response time. I subscribe to these threads and it forwards to my e-mail and then to my phone. :D

thanx for the reply patel, but i was asking if the credits transfer from hondros to another school out of state or even in ohio so you can continue towards ur bsn. Also noone has problems finding jobs?

i'll b coming down there tommorow so i can attend an information session. are those helpful?

The NLNAC accreditation is all dependent upon this. Like in the previous post, they have articulation agreements with Indiana Wesleyan University.

The information sessions are very good to answer these type of questions. Please post your findings out to these questions for people that are looking into this program.

What campus are you applying to?

i'm actually currently at the wester ville campus, im sitting in the lobby area waiting for a friend. Ultimately my main concern is to get my bsn. Thats what i want the most, also wanted to know, how long is that rn to bsn program?
