Help! Scared for CC physical capabilities test

U.S.A. Ohio

Published

Hey all!!! I'm an RN from the Cleveland Ohio area! I just accepted a position in an ICU at a regional campus of Cleveland Clinic. I have to take the Physical Capabilities Exam on Monday and I am so nervous!! I'm afraid I will fail and lose this awesome opportunity! I don't really work out and I'm overweight and not in good shape. I've been a nurse for five years and have never had a back injury but I'm so scared ! Any tips? Thanks!

Hi Smiley, It is an evaluation of your shoulders and knees... did you view the video? They just want to make sure that you can do the Russian kick dance and chop wood at the same time. You got this!

PCA Guidelines

Five reps, stop, five more, push and pull, hard and fast...go, go, go...kill and destroy the isokinetic machine... that is your mantra. You don't have a back injury so that is a plus. You will do fine, pee prior, dress comfy, and don't forget to breathe deeply from your diaphragm. Oh yea, congrats on your new job!

Its not bad at all. Just push and pull as hard as you can and you will be fine.

I've seen the video... that doesn't make me feel any better! Lol. So it's not testing muscle strength but the joints? That shouldn't be a problem.i just wish the job offer wasn't contingent on this test.

My first thought when I saw the video was there goes my hip! I have osteopenia in my right hip, but my knees are fine. I wonder if you can sue for breakage? If it helps to know, very few people fail this, and if they do, they pass on the second attempt. Please post when you do... sending positive vibes to the "Land of the Cleves."

I like you ladyscrubs!! Thank you so much! I heard from a friend who's sister is a manager at CC that the test has gotten easier in the last. Couple years. So crossing my fingers! I'll let you know!

someone just told me you can take it within a week if you don't pass?? Is this what you mean when you say people pass it a second time?

Well I took it today! Holy moly that was hard!! My muscles are tired! Hopefully that's a good sign that I gave it my all.

Hi Smiley, I thought about you Monday night, right after I slipped on the ice and ended up on my back checking out the pretty night time sky.:dead: I had three thoughts, the first was "I will be really hurting tomorrow," the second, "I wonder if that "Land of Cleves" nurse, Smiley feels better since she finished her isokinetic test," and the third was, "I need to take the time and look up into the sky more often." If I do say so myself, I think quite profound, albeit fragmented thoughts while sprawled out like a blue scrubbed snow angel on the top level of the hospitals parking garage.

But all is right with the world and I feel your tired muscles. Tired muscles are good, as are the positive thoughts I am sending your way!

I passed!!!!!! I am so happy!! And I thought " I have to tell lady scrubs" and I'm sorry about your fall!! I fell on ice four years ago and shattered my ankle, had to have an ORIF! Definitely not a fan of ice! Hope you're not injured. And thank you for your kind words.
