Experienced nurse moving to Cleveland - what is average pay?

Can I get some estimates on what hourly rate I might expect to be offered in Cleveland? I'm an RN with 15 years exp. Last 4 in CVICU (IABP, cardiothoracic & vascular recovery), BSN, CCRN-CSC. I expect pay rates will be lower than here in LA. However, im beginning to wonder if I can afford to live in Cleveland. Any info would be greatly appreciated, including estimates.

Hello, let me be one of the first to welcome you to Cleveland, What a change from CA!! I just wanted to make a suggestion. I am a nurse at the Dept. of Veteran's Affairs Medical Center here in Cleveland and could not ask for a better job. The benefits are wonderful and once in the VA system, you can transfer to any other VA health care facility in any state and even overseas.

If you put in Nursing and Cleveland, OH it will bring up all of the openings at the VA. We have tons of new construction at this time, they are building a new 8 story patient tower called the Cares Tower due to open I believe in 2011. If is most definitely worth the look. I love the VA, I worked on a MICU at the VA in Salt Lake City for a year as a student and it was the best, benefits are great as well!!!

Have you thought about Columbus? The living conditions are much nicer for about the same cost and the pay is much better. The average RN at OhioHealth is $84,000. They are also a top 20 company to work for. I work there myself as a nurse aide and I am going to nursing school and the nurses I work with have confirmed the salary. I don't think Cleveland pays near that.

I'm in Columbus too. I think that quote is off...by a lot. 84K ,straight time, would be very near if not the top of the pay scale not the average. I'm at another hospital, 23 years experience, alphabet soup certs, I make 81kish. I'm very close to max and I am 100% positive our pay scale is higher than Ohio Health. They must be including benefits in that figure. Still not a bad salary either way.

Are you at OSU? I've heard from a lot of people that Mt Carmel pays lower than average, but I could be wrong. To my knowledge, there aren't any other hospitals in Columbus that aren't part of OhioHealth, OSU, or Mt Carmel.

That is why I was wondering how they arrived at that "average" figure. OSU's pay is a little higher and isn't it like 44 dollars for top of the pay scale?

The charge nurse from my floor at Grant Medical Center left while I was there and transferred to OSU. She had 15 years RN experience and said she had to take a $1 / hr pay cut.

I think Cleveland's pay is very competitive compared to the rest of the state. It is not the best market for new grads, but if you a few years experience you can expect to find a job farely easy and make a salary of $50000 to $60000 with good benefits. Most places have plenty of overtime available, too. I recommend University Hospitals over the Clinic.The pay is the same, and they care for the staff a little more. Cleveland's cost of living is very affordable and you can get a STEAL on a home here! Good luck!

And that is exactly why I wouldn't work for Cleveland Clinic or have ay participation with that hospital, they are always making errors when it comes to hiring their staff. just recetly they had an open house for new R.N's it obivouse that they can't keep thier nursing staff.
