Hello everyone! I just had a quick question! I am graduating with my RN as of May 2013 (am currently working as an LPN) in Daytona Beach FL. The new graduate "starting wages" around here are pretty... Read More

Great, thanks for the information! My fiancé is waiting to hear if he got accepted into OSU (which is the one we want him to get into out of all our options!), so fingers crossed. We are both originally from Ohio, but live in FL (RN pay in central FL is crap for new graduates). And good luck in you NCLEX (if you haven't already taken it- I'm a little late, oops!)

If this was in response to me, thank you. I did pass the NCLEX less than a week ago and accepted a job as a Staff Nurse at OSU. I start on Feb 25 and I couldn't be more excited! Good luck to your fiance as well!

I'm a new grad RN in Columbus and having a hard time finding a job. Most hospitals around here are moving towards magnet status and prefer a BSN +1 year (at least) hospital experience. Also, we have a TON of nursing schools in the area so there are a bunch of us to choose from. The only classmates of mine that have found hospital jobs so far are the ones that "know a guy". I've started looking into nursing home jobs (do what you gotta do, right?) and it seems that the starting pay is around $23/hr too, but I'm not sure if they offer shift dif.

Keep at it. I do not have a BSN and I interviewed at all 3 adult hospitals and was offered jobs at 2. I took the OSU job and turned down an interview at Children's. I only had connections at 1 of them. However, I had been accepted to both OSU and OU's RN-BSN program which was really important to them.

Thanks for the words of encouragement! I've applied to both OSU and OU also and am still waiting to hear back but finishing up my pre-req's in the mean time. Any tips getting an interview with the adult hospitals in the area? I've been putting in applications like crazy & calling HR (who by the way, seem like they would rather talk with anyone but a desperate new grad), but still no luck. Is there something I'm missing?

Did you apply to the internship at OSU? They're just starting to set up interviews but they had over 500 applicants. I know Grant and Riverside are only hiring internal for new grads and experienced candidates right now.

Just keep applying. Don't give up. And make sure you have a good resume that helps you stand out.

Just got my acceptance letter to OSU's RN to BSN! Pretty excited, but still no job offers or even interviews Maybe I'll have better luck in the OSU med center now.

Did you apply to the New Grad Internship program at OSU. They are just beginning to set up interviews. As long as your application is still "in review" you're still being considered. If you're willing to relocate, I know of a lot of ADN grads that are getting interviews at Cleveland Clinic through their new grad RN program.

I just accepted a position at Mount Carmel East in Columbus in one of their new grad positions. I think East and West may still be hiring new grads. If you apply online you can do a specific search for "New Grad" to find the positions. Starting wage of $23.15 before differentials. Good luck!
