Cleveland Clinic - RN Resident Position

U.S.A. Ohio

Specializes in NICU.

Hello,

I have a question about getting hired as a new RN to the Cleveland Clinic. I applied to a generic RN Resident position for new RNs. I really want to work in the NICU, PICU, or Pediatric ER. Will I be able to request what areas I would be interested to work in? Locations to work at? I guess I'm just not sure how that works because I have no idea if they already have a floor they are screening me for?

Thanks!

They will ask if you have a specific area or hospital you want to work at. Then they show you whats open.

How did this go for you? I have my phone interview tomorrow and I'm really hoping to work in the nicu !

During my phone interview they asked where I was interested in working. I told them NICU, PICU, any pediatric floor, or any mother baby unit. They told me they have none of those positions open and that if they did new grads most likely wouldn't get them. I was then asked again what unit and hospital I wanted to work via email. I responded the same but I did say med/surg as well (at this point I had no other prospective job interviews). I was invited to interview for a medsurg position on a satellite campus (closest hospital to my house), but I was not impressed at all. I was also invited to interview on a neuro floor at main campus but declined the interview. It's adults and I really don't care for nursing with adults. I have also interviewed for a NICU at a different hospital, and a PICU at a different hospital. I am really excited and hope I get a job offer from one of these two jobs :)

There were many things I personally didn't like about the clinic, but I'm sure there are a lot of people who love the clinic.

Thanks for the response, I think I would have to take what I can get at this point ... I really don't want med/surg either but a foot in the door is better than nothing I guess

Good luck on your other opportunities :)

Thank you so much! Good luck on your job hunt! Maybe they will have some different openings now :)

Did they ask a lot of behavioral questions in the phone interview? Just trying to sound prepared I hate those type of on the spot questions!

Yes, they were mostly behavioral questions. A lot of the questions were: "Tell me a time when _____ ." Don't be nervous, it really wasn't bad.

Well I had my phone interview then received a call ten minutes later offering an in person interview and job shadowing for the cvicu step down, may not be NICU but it's in the same hospital! Fingers crossed!

Good luck!

Well I got the offer and accepted the only thing left is the physical strength test they do, hopefully it won't be too bad :)
