Advancement and Raises

U.S.A. Ohio

Published

Hi all,

I was looking for info about advancement opportunity as well as raise schedule for RN's in north east Ohio. How often are RN's evaluated and eligible for raises? Do advancement opportunities seem plentiful or scarce?

This is in regard to CC, UH, VA.

Thanks!

Dont forget Metro Health. I work at CCF and they have merit based raises, raises for getting certs, ebola team etc. UH has a few automatic pay raises and Im sure similar opportunities. VA is fed govt so Im not exactly sure but I know they pay well, probably the best in the Cleveland area. Metro and UH would be next. CCF is the lowest of all the hospitals.

Thank you for the reply!

You cap out at 10 years at Metro, only cost of living after that but not every year. No raises for certifications or education. No merit raises.

Hey Bittybabygrower,

Just wondering how the job market is in Ohio for NICU? I have no experience and am thinking about moving to the Cleveland area. Thanks.

It depends on the area. Most don't have a huge turn over. I know for each job opening we have, there are at least 50-75 applicants not counting internal.

Apply, you never know!

UH Rainbow is a great place to work, lots

of applicants.

I did not know that about Metro. What is the max an RN can make hourly there?

Around 34-35/HR. The huge draw to work there was always PERS but they have drastically changed a lot of the benefits and how long you have to work before retirement. You used to get full medical for you and your spouse, out in 30 years regardless of age, and payout of all sick time accrued. Not anymore.

Now to to even participate on most committees you have to have a BSN, they removed all that didn't with their last Magnet renewal. Some positions get a stipend and charge nurses get a dollar more, but their are no other rewards. Money is always tight working for a county hospital. We do have the highest tuition reimbursement in the area. I believe around $4000/year.

Do you have to do more than 30 years or do they just not provide full coverage when you retire?

I know people are moving out of Cuyahoga County so that doesnt help.

Cleveland Clinic offers 5000 tuition reimbursement for BSN and 7500 for MSN.

UH is the same but you can use it right away versus having to wait a year.

You don't have to wait a year for the clinic. It's a year or manager's discretion and I've never heard of any manager turning anyone down.
