Tuition reimbursement in Cincinnati area

Hi,

I don't know what your interests are, but I work in Home Health as an aide (STNA), and they are offering me tuition reimbursement to get my LPN. Since you are already going to be an LPN, a lot of nursing homes in the area will pay for you to go back and get your RN. I know most hospitals in this area do not hire LPNs anymore. However, if you go to www.trihealth.com, which is the partnership between Bethesda and Good Samaritan, they do have some LPN openings, most likely in physician offices owned by Tri Health. They might pay for you to get your RN. I would just be sure to ask about that in interviews. If you don't mind me asking, where are you getting your LPN from?

I debated between a few schools for my LPN, and Hondros was one of them. However, I had a really hard time getting ahold of Althea (I think that was her name) in admissions. It seemed like she was NEVER in. I would literally call 6 times a day and get nothing but her voicemail. Even after leaving a message, she never called me back. I finally decided on Bohecker. I work as an aide at a home health agency in the area, and they are excellent about working around my school schedule and are also paying for 1/2 of my LPN through Bohecker.

I know what you mean about financial problems. I have two small children and my husband is a full-time student at Cincinnati State. I am the only one working right now and it's only part-time. It has been rough, but the good thing is I will be able to CONTINUE working part-time while attending Bohecker because they have a 15-month evening LPN program, which will allow me to keep working in the morning. That was another deciding factor that helped me choose Bohecker. I could be wrong, but I don't THINK Hondros has a part-time evening program. At any rate, I think Tri-Health would be a great place to work. I talked to a friend who is an LPN through Tri-Health and he said the DO pay for you to get your RN after you've worked there a minimum of 6 months. Hope this helps!

Oh, and also I was going to say that these schools like Bohecker and Hondros are very expensive. I do not plan on getting my RN through Bohecker. I am only getting my LPN there and then I am planning to get my RN through Rio Grande University online. That way I can work a good number of hours a week as an LPN, take classes online, and just travel to Columbus one day a week for clinicals. Won't be bad at all. You might check that one out, as well. It's www.rio.edu and I think the total cost of the program, including books and uniforms is around $7-$9 thousand. So a lot cheaper than getting your RN through Hondros or Bohecker. Just a thought! Most hospitals are not hiring LPNs. Most nursing homes in area offer tuition reimbursement, some you have to sign contacts with and some you have to be there for a while before you are eligible.

I know this post is a couple of months old, however, wanted to let you know that Mercy does hire LPN's. They actually have around 5 postings for LPN's right now at their Mt. Airy location. Good Luck! =)
