STNA entering LPN program at CSCC needs more financial aid

by jnnfr08

I've already gotten a Bachelor of Busn Admin (Health Services Mgmt) from DeVry 10/2007. Can't find a job and have all kinds of debt ($50K). Decided to enter field as STNA, entering Columbus State Community College 3/30/2009 for Practical Nursing Certificate. Maxed out Federal funds getting BABS, any suggestions?? Or is there no other aid I can get?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

maybe try to find some nursing scholarships on fastweb.com, scholarships.com. I'm experiencing the problem you have. I have a B.S. in Health Management from OSU. I'm trying to get into CSCC nursing - online program too.

Maybe you could look into this. Isn't a whole lot, pay doesn't have to be repaid if you meet the requirements. Here is the link: http://regents.ohio.gov/sgs/nealp/students.php

If you can, try to get a job as a PCA at one of the hospitals in Columbus. I think most have tuition assistance. I know it sucks to work while going to school but I am considering it. I already have a CIS degree from DeVry so I can only get loans, subsidized hopefully. Once I get my STNA I hope to get in as a PCA. I don't know how hard it is to get into the hospitals since I haven't tried to get in yet. Unfortunately, it seems hard to get in anywhere nowadays though.

First Aid Re: STNA entering LPN program at CSCC needs more financial aid
Hello, I'm currently a student in the LPN program at Columbus State graduating this fall.

I have paid my entire way through the program because I am not eligible for financial aid due to reaching the 150 credit hours with no degree.

When I spoke to Columbus State they mentioned that they will not offer financial aid to students who have a bachelors degree however, If you have an associate’s degree they will offer you a small financial aid package.

The best thing is to apply for a scholarship.

I thought Columbus State wouldn't give you grants if you have a bachelors degree but you can still get stafford loans, subsidized and unsubsidized. I hope I can get a loan because I can't afford $1200 a quarter on my own unless I can find a job and they are very scarce at the moment. I will end up with an enormous credit card bill. I also have a bachelors degree from DeVry. I wish I would have just gone into to nursing from the start. Oh well, we live and learn.
