safety of Cincinnati area

I haven't been to Christ, but I've had clinicals at University and Shriners which are both in the same area. I'm not sure about the crime rate, but I feel safe walking from the parking lot to get in there. I've never been there for the night shift though, that might be different I guess. I'm not orginally from Cincinnati. I'm not sure about living in the area near those hospitals though.

I've lived in Cincy my entire life. Just like any big city, you have to take some responsibility for your own safety. There are very few spots here that I wouldn't feel safe in, but I also wouldn't go traipsing around like the world is a Disney movie.

Both Christ and University have pretty decent security. The garages are well lit and you can request an escort if you work 2nd or 3rd, I believe. There are some beautiful homes in the Clifton area. I lived there for almost 4 years and had no problems whatsoever. At the time I was working till 3am and never had a real concern about my safety. Clifton Heights surrounds UC. If you want an older group of neighbors, I'd try Gaslight District. It's a really cool area to live in. Kinda like a mini college town in the middle of a big city.

Again, you just need to be smart about it and be aware of your surroundings

I actually would like to work in a city with high crime rates, especially at a level 1 trauma center. You'll get all kinds of good experiences with the most critical patients.

I hear that the University of Cincinnati hospital nurses are union nurses, if that makes any difference.

Just like any decent-sized city - yes, you will have crime. Are people getting mugged, stabbed and shot on their way into the hospital everyday? - NO - I work at UC's MICU. We all park in one of several, large, secured, well-lit garages. We are covered by Univ of Cinti police who are actually on the hospital campus. I have not heard of any problems for hospital staff. Now, yes, Christ, Childrens, Good Sam, the VA and UC (college and hosp) are all right near each other in the inner city where there are some "not-so-great" neighborhoods. So as was stated in a prev post - be smart and dont just wander along some dark alley by yourself, because you're just askin for it. But there are tons of students and medical professionals that do live in and around these areas - if you so choose to. Otherwise there are tons of great areas around town to live up or down I-71, 74 or 75 that wont be a horrible commute to wherever you decide to work. You'll be fine... Cincy has had higher crime numbers lately but as far as being in the number 2 spot? I hadnt heard that- I thought we were further down the list.

another huge factor you may want to consider is that traffic in Cincinnati is HORRIBLE!

esp in the wintertime/snow!

Traffic is only bad during rush hour....just like any big-ish city

And snow....welllll, if you don't like cold weather or snow, you shouldn't move to Ohio LOL
