Relocating to Columbus- help!

I am moving to Columbus in April and need help. I am an ER nurse looking to make a move to the ICU(Surgical or Cardiac).

1)What hospitals have a good/bad reputation in Columbus?
2) What does the average ICU Nurse make in Columbus?
3) Who is hiring?
4)Where is a good place to live(looking for suburb with good schools, parks, etc)

Any info/suggestions would be helpful!
Thanks!!

I can't help with all of your questions... but as far as location I would suggest one of the suburbs on the NW or W side of the city such as Worthington, Dublin, Upper Arlington. They are all nice areas with good schools and are basically right off 315 which takes you downtown and past Ohio State's campus. Riverside Methodist and Ohio State Medical Center are both off 315. I'm not sure about ICU reputation, but both of those hospitals have a heart hospital connected to them - Mcconnell Heart Center for Riverside and Richard M. Ross Heart Hospital for Ohio State both of which are very new (since you mentioned cardiac).

I'm in Cincinnati now finishing up school, but I lived in Columbus my whole life and miss it!

Good luck!

Hi! Columbus is sort of a tight job market right now for nurses, but there are jobs available. I would apply as early as you can. As for salary, it all depends how many years of experience you have. Columbus actually pays better than a lot of other cities in the region, so that is a good thing.

I work at Riverside, which is a really nice hospital. OhioHealth is consistently rated as one of the best employers in the country. OhioHealth consists of Riverside Methodist, Grant, Dublin Methodist and Doctors Hospital. Riverside is the largest of their hospitals and specializes in cardiovascular and stroke care, Grant is downtown and has a trauma/ortho focus, and Dublin is a brand new state-of-the-art suburban hospital. Dublin does not hire new grads.

Good luck with the move!

Also consider the Mt. Carmel system. They have quite a few hospitals in the area as well. They also have a RN-BSN, BSN, Accelerated BSN, and MSN program. I know a few nurses that work there and love it.

Does Mt Carmel have tuition reimbursement? I think OSU Med does, anyone know if any of the other hospital systems offer that in Columbus? Thanks for all the info.
