picc line whos responsible

Im a floor nurse lpn with a patient that has a picc line. The order is for 7am, I ask an rn to do the picc line which now runs into 730am she then does not want to start the atb saying its out of complience. I cant do it, who is responsible? I think the mgmt of the facility should have this worked out with an rn prior to the day of, but who is responsible?

Under Ohio's licensure, LPN's are not permitted to do anything with PICC lines (even flush).

I hope this helps.

How soon are you telling the RN? If she refuses to hang the abt, how about suggesting that they be retimed? It's far worse to skip a dose than to be late with one, IMO.

Also, if she knew about it ahead of time, she took responsibility for the med. If she was late despite your reminder and then refused, that's a big ol' med error x2.
