Re: Owens - anyone know what's happening?
It's the National League of Nursing Accreditation that Owens lost because not enough Masters' prepared instructors and not enough student involvement in policy, etc. Most schools will accept Owens grads to BSN programs, and as an Owens student, I received an e-mail about 2 schools out of all the nursing schools in OH (
Ohio State being one) that will not accept a student not from NLN accredited school. Funny thing is, there are
many different groups of accreditation, and BON ultimately has say, and Owens is fine in this way. As was said by Dept of Nursing that if students not told about this, most wouldn't even know, as wouldn't be affected even if
going on. I plan to go to BSN program the Fall after I graduate (I'll be done Dec 2010) and after getting the REAL
FACTS and not listening to the craze of student talking, I am very glad to be at Owens.
I do have to say, graduated from LPN program in Dec 08, just before started RN in Jan 09, so I'm in my second
semester RN. The LPN program I'm SOOOO thankful I completed because the education I got from that (at OWENS) is worlds apart from the quality of education I'm getting from the RN program. The RN program is too big, many of the instructors (esp in skills lab first semester) are "separate" from students, and just overall I'm not learning anything near the quality of the LPN. Overall though, I think the program is okay, it's just that I did the LPN and so see the potential of nursing education, so yes disappointed. I keep waiting, like, maybe haha NEXT semester going to get better...
