Wow, that really stinks. I had just decided today that maybe they were the only school that would work for me with having to still work through school...

I am so lost on what school to go to. Its no wonder there is a nursing shortage! If its affordable then there is a two yr waiting list..

If my goal is to be an Rn should I just go ahead and go to a four year school like wright state and forget these career colleges?? Any help would be greatly appreciated...

msraisingkain goes to Rets, as do I. She is in the day program and I am in the evening program. I really like it so far. (it's only been 3 days!) but it's in the evenings from like 4-10, 3 days a week the first semester and 5 days the next 3 semesters. Good luck.

I totally agree with Hoping2BeRN. RETS is a good place to go to get your nursing license without the waiting list. I go days and I would not say it's a good program to go if you have to work, but from what I hear going to the evening classes is more "doable". (Did I spell that right? LOL)

Does Kettering College of Medical Arts have a waiting list? They didn't used to. I went there. Feel free to PM with any questions.

No they don't have a wait list but are pretty difficult to get in. This time around they wanted students with a 3.5 or higher GPA, and it SUCKED because high school students OF COURSE have that gpa.

Thanks for the advice...

I thought about checking in to Butler Tech and Miami U Middletown.

The evenings at Rets would not be too bad. Unfortunately though my job is going to be difficult to work with because of my position. I have a management position with Aldi's and we only have 4 people in a store. They would not be cool with me not closing any through the week... Finding another job is not really an option either because I make 17$ an hr there and I really need to make that much to keep up with the bills..

I know that if there is a will there is a way though..

The day classes at RETS are from about 8 or 9 in the morning until 4 or 5 in the afternoon (it depends on the day). Clinicals are on Tuesdays from 7 AM to 3 PM. They have told us to expect about 15 hours a week of homework. It's going to be a pretty intense schedule and they said people that work full time will have a bit of a struggle. Do you have kids or anybody that you have to take care of at home?
MUM's nursing program is really hard to get in to. I'm not 100% sure of the actual numbers but they get something like 300+ applications a year for about 80 positions. There is no waiting list, the application process starts over each year, and they take people based on how many credits you have already taken. There is a girl in my class at RETS that has spent 4 years at MUM trying to get in the nursing program and finally withdrew because she was tired of waiting to get in. I think Butler Tech's schedule is very similar to RETS and MVCTC. Unfortunately, I don't think that's going to vary much from school to school.
17 bucks an hour?? Wow!! A lot of LPNs don't even make that much anyway!!! Good for you!!!!!!

Yeah, its good money and great benefits. Unfortunately it is extremely physical with a lot of lifting and I just didnt think I could do it as I get older.

Thanks a lot for the info on MUM. That is amazing that they have that many applicants. Like I said in my OP, I can see why there is such a big shortage of nurses.

I got a call from Diane at Rets today and she said that they are possibly going to have a part time lpn program that is only a couple days a week. So, we'll see...

I commend you for choosing a new career. I was a pharmacy tech for 11 years and decided to go to nursing school because I felt there was "nowhere" else for me to go unless I want to go to pharmacy school (as a mother of 2 I did not want to go to college for 5 or 6 years full time). I know the guts it takes.

A part-time program at RETS is a great idea. Hopefully we'll see you there soon!!!
