Medication samples and the Ohio LPN

Does anyone know if it is illegal for a Ohio lpn to give out medication samples if the pt has a current prescription from the doctor but just can't afford the co-pay to get the full amount filled at the pharmacy?

From what little info you've provided, it sounds as if you may be practicing pharmacy, which is definitely out of your scope, and therefore illegal. Having a valid prescription isn't the issue; nurses are not allowed to dispense medication in this manner.

However, if you are working at a clinic or physician's office, that's likely a different matter. My question is, where are you getting the meds from to give these people?

It sounds like a noble cause, but you should not jeopardize your license.
