I would also like to know more about this school, I'm hoping to start next fall.

When should I apply?

Also, do you get to choose your schedule and locations of the classes or is it set up for you?

I'd also like to know any other opinions on the school and any other useful information.

Thank youuu

Nothing! I did get an email. Asked about a course, to which I replied that in our last conversation they were supposed to be looking at the one I took during my undergrad and hopefully accepting that one--gave them that info in June. Since that last email I have not heard back either way. I think that the problem could be that seats are full for evening. It was an issue when I interviewed but I told them I couldn't switch to days. I didn't interview until close to end of June. I can't seem to find out my status. I noticed on the info book from email that they accept late registrations until the 28th. I am just wondering if they are waiting to see if spaces open up??? I wish I could go days, but I can't. I feel kind of frustrated at this point just wondering what the issue is.

Yes, its a very stressful process. The evening class is probably full. Class start Wednesday nite.. Dont give up! They also told me that if someone drops the program within the first week, they will call people to take their seats If you dont hear anything by next week... definately get in touch with barb by phone, so you can get set up for Janurary. The best times to call her is the evening. i think she stays late.

Hi Everyone,

Am curious about Huron School of Nursing....I am doing pre-reqs and core courses at Tri-C right now. They are placing for Spring semester for Nursing. Of course, I need to pass their Nurse Entrance Exam with a 80 percent in the math portion which I think is really high! Anyway, I am starting to look at other options in case I don't get into tri-c.

I have a bachelor's in English from Ohio State and I have completed Psy 1010, Bio 1100, A and P 1 at tri-c. My math, english and electives are transferred in from my B.A. I am taking A and P 2 and Psy 2020 right now. I will take Micro in the spring and then all my non-nursing courses will be done for tri-c.

Was curious as to the pre-reqs for Huron and when one can apply? Do I need to wait until my grade posts for A and P 2 at the completion of this fall semester? THe website is a little confusing (for instance says they have a diploma in nursing for those with a bachelors, but I could find nothing about that online) and I was hoping to get some info from those who have been through the application process.

Thanks in advance and good luck to those beginning the program!

Becky

Becky,
Your situation is a lot like mine! I was also enrolled and preparing for the Tri-c program, and I also have a degree. I found Tri-C's program to be unorganized and the NET test scores are pretty high. So I applied to Huron in March and was OFFICIALLY accepted in July.
The pre-req's you need BEFORE THEY WILL EVEN CONSIDER YOUR APP are; BIO 1100, A&P 1 and 2, PSYCH 1010, ENG 1010, MATH 1000 or higher.
Because you already have a degree... you will only have to take the nursing courses and the support courses (ie. sociology, philosophy, etc) Basically, you will not have to take any of the classes needed to get the actual associate degree from tri-c. (ie. communications, arts&humanities, etc)
If I were you I would apply NOW.. just to get the ball rolling. You never know when they may start a waiting list However, the commitee will not review your application for offical acceptance until ALL FINAL GRADES are turned in. But if you get you app on file, the student services dept will help you get together all you need to complete the admission process, then you'll know where you stand. Hope that helps. Let me know if you have any other questions, and I'll help you the best i can.
Good Luck.

Bubbly,

Thanks for the info! So, it looks like I can "officially" apply after my grade for anatomy 2 posts in december. I will take your advice and start my application now, so that way it will at least be on hold for that grade. This is actually positive since I am not taking micro until the Spring -- I was worried I'd need that to apply. I am still going to take the NET and see how I do -- the generic track at Tri-c still has space for the spring. If I concentrate solely on the accelerated, I'd have to wait until Fall to start the nursing courses. With the accelerated option though, I get out of taking that pesky NET exam. I feel like I am in limbo -- I want to plan, but I understand it is a waiting game.

Do you plan to go for a BSN in the future? What are the ramifications of a diploma in nursing in terms of advanced nursing education?

Thanks,
Becky

Becky.. Yep, you can "officially" apply once you have your final grade for A&P 2 submitted. Unfortunately they wont "hold" any spot for you pending that grade, but they will keep you on the right track to getting in the program. Micro was hard for me and half my class <which dropped (with Mr Preston at tri-c metro ) so if your taking it with no other courses, you'll be at an advantage. When the commitee has ALL your info, they'll meet (usually once a month) to determine if your accepted and for what start date. They consider A LOT of things for admission, including...... GPA, your previous degree, all support courses completed.... those all play a role in their decision, >which works for you. As for diplomas in nursing... i believe they limit you to entry level positions. For management, surgery etc. you probably need a BSN. Im going into a RN-to-BSN program upon my graduation and passing the boards. Its online through Ohio University and Cleve Clinic (where i work). I expect in the future a diplome just wont be enough???????? Good luck with applying... you never know, they might get you set up for spring!!!

For those of you who were accepted or already enrolled how is your schedule (days vs. evenings and hours lecture vs. clinicals and labs) Just trying to sort out my options w/ work a family and all that fun stuff Thanks for any help.
Good luck to all the future nurses.
