Great oaks lpn process?! advice??

I am currently a student at the Scarlet Oaks campus. I am with class 56 graduating July 3 and I highly recommend going there. The following is from Great Oaks website about the admission process. or go to http://www.greatoaks.com/pages/-2485-/
Step 1 in the admission process:

• Attend an Information Meeting at Scarlet Oaks every Tuesday at 10:00 AM or every Wednesday at 4:00 PM. Enter Door #3 at the Scarlet Oaks High School. Meetings start promptly and attendees will not be allowed to enter late.Or attend an Information Meeting at the Health Professions Academy every Monday at 4:00 PM or Friday at 9:00 AM. Step 2 in the admissions process:

• Pass the WorkKeys test. Visit www.act.org/workkeys/assess/foundational.html for testing information.
• Take the TEAS, Test of Essential Academic Skills, test if interested in the May 2008 program. Beginning 7/1/08, the TEAS test will not be required for the Practical Nursing program. Visit www.atitesting.com for more information about the TEAS test.

Step 3 in the admissions process:

• Complete the Practical Nursing program application. Examples of some of the required documentation include: High School Diploma or GED, foreign born students must have their diploma from country of origin translated into English and reviewed by a credential evaluator in order to verify that it is equivalent to a U.S. high school diploma. After you have completed all necessary prerequisites they will usually send a letter out about acceptance, orientation, etc. Clinicals usually start about the second week of class. If you have not received anything yet you could call the nursing department and inquire as to whether everything is complete in your application, when somebody will know when they are accepted, etc. I hope that has helped out some.

Hey, do you mind me asking you what the program at Scarlet is like?? I was supposed to go to Scarlet in Aug,08, but since it is now full, I was told to try the Laurel Oaks one. It is about 1 hr away. I have read a lot of things on here about it being a great program, but the rules they have are ridiculous. Such as only 6 per table at lunch time or no phone calls during breaks...also, what were the hours of a typical day for you? Did you always get out on time?

I am very glad I chose to go to Scarlet Oaks campus. I did not feel as though their rules were outrageous. They were kind of strict on uniform, white shoes, hair up etc. Smokers had to go off campus to smoke. They didnt seem to have a problem with us using our cell phones outside of class on breaks. Some of us ate lunch in the staff room. Others went out to eat. No strict rules as far as how many people could sit at a table etc. Not at Scarlet. Another rule they had was that you could not talk to the high school students, which was understandable. I can't say the same for other locations. School hours were 8am to 3:30pm. Clinicals were usually 7am to 3pm. They did pretty good on getting you out on time. They were particular about timeliness. They really encouraged everyone to be on time and this program you could only miss so many hours. The teachers and staff were great and very helpful.

how hard is the workkeys test for scarlet oaks? my husband is going to be taking it soon and is worried about it since he has been out of school for awhile. he's a smart cookie though and I think he'll do fine but I would appreciate those who have taken the test to kind of rate the level of difficulty. I mean is it like high school stuff? also did you get any material to study for? thanks!!

I am late to ths post but I graduated Jan 08 and I WOULD recommend the program. Clinicals started out I think once a week and then as time went on we went up to three times a week. We have the most clinical experience and that is why we excel. We have a high NCLEX pass rate,Ms. Blatt is wonderful with A&P and they strive to prep you for RN school. NO LIE, I grad in Jan 08 and I just started clinical at Cin State LPN-RN in NURS 4918. Cin. state wont take the A&P though. Over the summer I took all my A&P's accelerated and did well in all of them. I'm telling you they have a excellent reputation. I like the books, uniforms,supplies and nclex fee are included in the tuition. I never been to Brown Mackie but I hear A LOT of bad things about the cincinnati campus. email me and i can tell u all about Great Oaks and u can have my books if u go.

I am not to fond of Cin. State but go there for LPN-RN thier wait list is less than a year
