Good Samaritan School of Nursing Current and Former Students Cincinnati, OH

OK Good Sam former and current students I need your help. I got accepted to Good Sam and will start Aug 2010. Now what is there anything I should study or brush up on prior to entry? I need your advice and information on general education as well as the nursing courses. I am going to take CHE 101 and 102, ETH 312, AND MTH 103.it will be a great help, if you just add what kind of books used for these courses and where to purchase them. And also please please let me know what to expect from professors and if there are some I have to choose over others. Thank you so much.

I was also accepted to good sam, but I was also accepted to christ and decided to go them. I have heard alot of good things... how the teachers are great and will help you if you need it, but you have to WANT this is what I was told. They said it is a VERY!!! intense program and a lot of people do drop out. I know of 2 people who dropped out, but I also know 2 people who made it and loved the program! Here's what I would tell you.... All nursing programs are going to be hard and intense! If you truly what this you will make it work for you! You have a year to decide what to do if you start in Aug of next year. Do you have any of your gen. ed classes done? Another idea would be to start this fall at a local college and take some of your classes and get them out of the way. I went to Cincinnati State and did all my gen. ed classes, except for the 13 credit hours that I have to take at Christ. Cin. State is very cheap and I like it there, but they go on 8 week terms, so if you next 2 english’s at GS then you will need 3 english’s at Cin. State. If your confused I can explain further. I hope this helps!!! Let me know if you have any other questions!

Hi jennifer7076, thank you so much for the reply. I have all my gen. ed already done except the 12 credit I have to take at good sam. I am only going to take the two chemistry classes and ethnic health and a math there, which is exactly 12 credits. I wish I can find someone from good sam who can tell me about these gen. edu classes and the nursing class. Do you think I can go ahead and take the chemistry classes in community college and transfer it? And instead of the two chemistry class repeat another class when I get there for example sociology and psychology. I am just thinking if it is easier that way if it is allowed. By the way I am not in Cincinnati and never been. I live in Salt Lake City, ut. What is it like there? Where is good sam located in the middle of down town or suburb? Is there decent apartment around there? Let me know if you can and thanks again.

My goodness you'll be far from home! Well Good Sam isn't right in the middle of downtown, and I wouldn't consider it in a suburb. It's in Clifton which I would say that's about 10 mins. at the most to downtown. I'm so not familiar with that area, because I'm from the other side of the river in Ky. All I can tell you is a lot of the younger students that I know from Cincinnati State live in Clifton and love it! Me on the other hand I'm older and married, with kids, and I wouldn't like it. Good Sam is located right in the hospital on the upper level floors and there are apartments around there. UC is also close to there and I believe if you keep going further up the from the hospital there are other hospitals. I know that there are parts of Clifton that are very very nice and then there are some where you should never walk alone at night. But you'll have that anywhere you go.. for the most part I would think it's pretty safe. You should really come take a look before you decide that this is what you want! You have around 5 months left to pay your fee, I would maybe come down for a few days and check out the school and the surrounding area. As far as the chemistry I would say yes you can take it somewhere else and take something else to get your 12 credit hours. I only say that because when I was over at Christ last week he told me if I would have gone ahead and taken another Soc. I would have to take another gen. ed course to make sure I had my 13 required hours. So I'm just assuming that Good Sam is most probably the same. With that said I would call and ask just to make sure before you waste your money. Hope this helps! If you need anything just ask!

Hi katieh I will let you know if I get any information. Are you going to take the other general education there too? Did they tell you when you will start the nursing courses and when you will finish the program. why don’t you take some of the general classes until then?
