Excelsior College Grads???

Hi I had a representative from Excelsior come to give me some information about the school the only thing that I didn't like was the fact that it is so expensive and if I wanted to continue my education to get my BSN or MSN none of my classes would transfer over.......How is it going for you???

I graduated in August 2005 from Excelsior and live in Toledo, Ohio. I formerly worked in Ohio and now work in Michigan. A few people have asked me about Excelsior during interviews, but it has never counted against me at all. I think people ask because it is something they have never heard of before.
As for cost, Excelsior turned out to be cheaper for me than my community college because of the wait and the number of classes I had to take. I enjoyed being able to schedule the Nursing Concepts exams at my convenience, especially since the Prometric testing center is a mile from my house.
I did find the CPNE nerve wracking, but definitely not impossible. You just have to remain focused on what it all means to you.

hi there...i saw that you posted that you took all of your prereqs through EC---i am currently a LPN with over twenty years exp. with no college credits and working towards my ADN...how did it go for you????where did you buy your books???how about those learning sytems out there..RUE, CollegeNetwork???? thanks for your time...sue

I am also looking into the EC program. No one seemed to say much about the job markets though. I am still a little worried about finding work in Columbus with an EC ADN. Anyone work in Cbus? What about OSU's Medical Center? Do they hire EC grads? Thanks

EC's ADN or any other ADN is fine as long as they are NLNAC (which they are). As long as you have your boards and decent contacts for getting you that first job (maybe where you work right now?) as an RN, you are all set.
I personally LOVE EC!!!!
In my opinion its the best value for people with some health care experience (LPNs etc) because its as fast or slow as you make it, no waiting list, but watch out for the mother of all nerve wrackers : the dreaded CPNE.
If you survive that you have what it takes to survive RN requirements
It cost me approx $6000 from start to finish, including attending one cpne workshop to get to RN
FYI, for what its worth, I now have 2 jobs, one as instructor and another in telemetry and love them both.
