Does past job experience (non-medical) make a difference when applying for jobs?

I'm finishing pre-reqs and I'm going to be starting an accelerated BSN program.

I'm 25 but I have a pretty successful resume, i've worked in Washington D.C., for 2 presidential campaigns and in the highest levels of state government. But of course all my experience is in media and communications.

Will this experience make any difference when I'm a new grad applying for nursing positions? Do they look at anything beyond your nursing career?
