Do I really need 4WD/AWD?

by Megsd

I am (sort of) in the market for a new car and am trying to consider my options. I currently have a Ford Contour which has been a good car, but it's getting old and I want something newer. My question is, I am concerned about winter weather and HAVING to go to work despite bad conditions or snow emergencies. Would it be a wise idea for me to get a vehicle with 4WD or AWD (like a truck or SUV), or is it just hype and I can still get to work in a sedan? I moved to Dayton last summer and didn't have any trouble getting to work last winter, but the winter was a pretty mild one, so I'm not sure I can use that as a basis for comparison.

Do you guys tend to have cars that can make it through bad conditions, or should I stick with the vehicle of my dreams and just hope I can make it to my destination?

i live in Dayton i have for way too long... anyway a car is fine i would recommend something with front-wheel drive which is alot of cars, my last couple have cars have had front wheel and i could go anywhere. Pontiac Bonneville and older Cadillac, both do great in snow. you can pm if you want.

Love my Subaru, it's Allwheel drive, and you don't need chains. In fact, you would have to get different tires to use them. When we go through checkpoints in snowy weather, they just wave us on through.
