COTC VS. Columbus State

Does anyone know how long the LPN- RN courses last for either of these two schools? In my area they are only a year but I have been told these colleges may be longer. Also does anyone know what the wait time may be to enter the program?? THANKS!!!!

I'm in my last quarter at CSCC in their online RN program. We had some LPNs join our program in the fourth quarter to get their RN so that would come out to a year (CSCC is a 7-quarter program). Don't know about the waiting list.

That awesome your graduating in June!!!! Time will fly!! How do you like the online program? I am not familar with it. What are the requirements to do nursing online?? Do you still attend a clinical site? I know online classes are far more flexible but are they more difficult?

The only different requirement for CSCC's online program is that so far they are requiring that you already have a bachelor's degree in something else. All the other requirements are the same as the traditional program.

As far as the online classes themselves, I believe that our course work is very similar to the traditional program with the exception that the online program has homework assignments we have to turn in like case studies, review questions, etc. whereas the traditional students do not. I believe the thinking there is to make sure that we are doing the reading and watching the lectures, etc. since they can physically see the traditional students attending class and seminar. The homework can be a blessing or a burden. Some people like it because it can boost your overall grade for the quarter. On the other hand, if you test well, the homework just feels like busy work. Even for the science classes I took online I don't think they were any harder (difficult to say since I don't know much about the regular classes)--it's just a different way to learn and self discipline and motivation are very important. My classes really weren't a whole lot more flexible as assignments and tests had deadlines similar to the regular classes--just didn't have to go to campus for lecture.

Anyone have any input regarding the wait time at COTC vs. CSCC? I'm weighing the option of hauling to Newark for class instead of 10 mins away. :-( I won't be able to start actual nursing classes at CSCC til fall '08 at the earliest.

Definately go to a COTC info session! my LPN friend went there for her certificate and told me that they accept about 90% of the LPNs that apply to the bridge program. They do not get as many apps for the bridge program as they do for the RN and LPN program. If accepted, you start right away. This is second hand info, so anyone correct me if I am wrong.

Tiffany,
I have 1 quarter to go to finish my BA. :-( That is biting me in the tush SO MUCH! I wish I wasn't the queen of dropping classes so I graduated in June instead of dragging it out an extra quarter at OSU. (I took summer off and fall class is at CSCC for me.) I won't be able to apply til spring for summer session. What is the bridge program? Is that LPN to RN? I'm not an LPN.

oops! I don't know why I thought you were an LPN COTC does not have the wait time that CSCC does because they accept students on a competitive baiss. They look at the nurse selection exam scores and GPA. Not like CSCC that accepts pretty much everyone. However, CSCC does have the online RN track for people with bachelor degrees in another fied. I don't think COTC has that option. COTC has much nicer and more helpful people working there The campus is very nice and quaint. The best part is if you get accepted you start the program very quickly
