Cleveland new grads

To all the Cleveland new grads (within the past year or so):

Wondering how long/after how many applications it took you to get an interview?

What was your orientation experience like? Classes? Schedule? 12 weeks?

Thanks!

I know that a friend of mine graduated from Kent State, passed the NCLEX, and is now a nurse extern at Cleveland Clinic. She didn't have a waiting period at all. She said it was super easy to get in.

I took my test in March. i applied for 3 different jobs, and actually had 2 job offers from those 3 interviews. I accepted one. I find that most of my classmates were in the same position. I'm an LPN.

I would be patient for now and persistent. I have spoken to many nursing recruiters in the Cleveland area (i.e. UH and Cleveland Clinic hospitals) and they have told me consistently that the job market has been over saturated with new grads and it has been difficuly hiring process. One hospital told me that they hired so many new grads last year that their budget hasn't allowed them to hire as many new grads this year.

I also spoke with a new grad nurse while I was on my interview/shadow experience and (depending on the hospital), she got a job just by going to the hospital (in her suit, I suppose) and handing in her resume. I would give this a try.

I take it that you are an external applicant and this makes the process a bit more difficult, which is what I have experienced. Try to network with other classmates who have jobs. If your school has an alumni network, I would seek out those nurses as well. However if this doesn't work, many recruiters have told me that certain external candidates have stood out by the previous healthcare experience he or she has had (i.e. CNA, RT, etc.) or having a BSN. I empathize since it has taken me a while to receive a job offer. I really wish you the best of luck.
