cardiac nursing ,critical care nursing, hospice, and geriatric nursing???

I had very brief exposure to both these fields during rotations even tho i desperately tried to talk my way into a few extra days during rotations..I think I would like to be in either one of these fields, but how would i know for sure.. Now that i'm finally an RN (working in an LTC...only job available right now, didn't want to do it, but am growing to like it too) how can i research more about Cardiac and CC nursing to know if its something i really like?

Also since working here at the LTC I was wondering if hospice or geriatric nursing is a possibility, and if it can get me a decent enough income (i'm 45 with 2 kids, hubby passed away and i need to look after my parents and his dad and this is my first nursing job as i used to work in health care admin ) as well as a lifestyle which allows me to be there for my family as well


do they lelt nurses volunteer in areas they want to work in ? I have 2 days a week free and could volunteer if needed

Please share any insight that any of you girls have ..any books , volunteering etc or forums that deal with these areas? i am not sure how to begin the decision making process..
