Brown Mackie College

Hi, I have been looking for info on Brown Mackie too. Is there one in Ohio and if so where?

I went to Owens in Findlay, and have worked with a lot of Brown Mackie students. What do you need to know, maybe I can help.

No, a lot of them weren't happy with it after they found out about what us Owens grads had differently. I don't know about now, but last I knew it wasn't accredited. A lot of them are working on their RN's now, and had to start all over. I checked them out before I went to Owens, and they were almost double the price also. I had second shift clinicals for a semester at and we followed Brown Mackie students. Their charting was a mess. I don't think it was the student's faults, I think it was some of their teachers, they just weren't taught much about charting. I also heard form some of the girls that a few of their instructors are outrageously difficult to please, and so a lot of them failed Nutrition, which should have been one of the easier courses (IMO--at my school it was one of the easier classes). Also, last I knew on thier grading scale you had to have an 80% to pass. Ours was a 77%. Doesn't sound like much, but with some instructors that 3% can make a world of difference. I think they are offering IV certification with an extra month of class now too. IV certification was included in my program.

There's a girl at the group home that I pass meds at that was a few months away from graduating from there, dropped out, and went to Terra to pursue her RN instead--none of her classes were accepted. All in all, most people I know that went there aren't very happy.

Yes, I work with some nurses that graduated from there and they passed on the first try.

I am currently attending Brown Mackie College in Findlay Ohio and I love the program. As for the credits transferring for the RN program at a different school I am not sure. From reading other posts, its kind of making me think. Everyone that I know that goes there like the program too. Yes the minimum passing grade is 80% in all classes but in my opinion that better prepares you for the NCLEX/State Boards. The classes are hard but you have to be willing to study study study. Hello all! I am a March 2005 Brown Mackie Graduate. The group I graduated with did pass state boards on first try. As far as the school, its ideal for classes that start immediately and you don't have to sit out a semester waiting on a class you need for whatever reason. Some clinical instructors are horrible they are just mean if they don't like you won't pass but there was only 2-3 of them when I went and only 1 was in my clinical area. You have a choice in that school either work hard or don't. The ones' who work hard and want it will graduate and pass boards. Others will get weeded out all the way up to your preceptor month. If you fail too many classes you can get kicked out your last month for having too many hours and no they won't tell you till the end. There's lots of instructors that will help you class and clinical. I had 2 of the best clinical instructors that school has and there located in the fremont area. The school is accreditted. I am studying for my RN and if it wasn't accredited I would not of sat for boards. Only prereq's pass on to other nursing schools none of the nursing classes will. So if you fail out half way thru NO it will not transfer but all nursing schools are like that and Brown Mackie has very few prereq's : computer, psych and some nutrition classes will transfer to/from that school. And yes now you have an extra month of class and you have your IV cert too!! Its a good school if you have the heart to be in nursing. Good luck with your decision.
