Bohecker Accreditation

Hi everyone,

I am planning to attend Bohecker College - Cincinnati in December 2009. However, I keep reading post after post on this site indicating that Bohecker has lost their accreditation. I am confused by this. Bohecker offers RETS College's Nursing program, and RETS program is accredited by the Ohio Board of Nursing as well as NLNAC (I just checked both sites, so I know this is current and accurate). It also states in my paperwork from Bohecker that the college has instituational accreditation from the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES). Furthermore, "Bohecker College - Cincinnati is accredited to award Occupational Associate’s Degrees and Diplomas. Bohecker College - Cincinnati is registered with the State Board of Career Colleges and Schools, 35 E. Gay Street, Suite 403, Columbus, Ohio 43215."

I am just wondering where everyone is getting their information about Bohecker. I did a Google search for Bohecker losing accreditation, and this site is the only one that keeps coming up. Are you referring to the school itself losing accreditation, or the Nursing program? As I stated before, the Nursing program is RETS College's program, and it is still fully accredited according to all applicable websites (BON, ABHES, NLNAC, etc). According to the school's website, the school is still accredited. Can anyone show me PROOF to contradict any of this? I am getting ready to spend $20,000 on getting my LPN and do not want it to be wasted. Thank you.

I will be starting at Bohecker in Ravenna in December. I keep seeing the same things on here. My worry is actually with their sister school NIT that I plan to attend for RN after Bohecker. I was told that the hospital i currently work at as an aide does NOT hire NIT grads because they are not accredited. I called NIT and they told me that my hospital is picky and they are working on getting the accreditation that my hospital requires but that their graduates ARE able to get jobs at the Akron hospitals (City, Children's, General) so I am ok with that if it's true. I know someone who got their LPN at Bohecker and had trouble finding a job for a while but finally found a part time job at a nursing home. Sorry I can't help but I am worried about this stuff too!

Hello!

I just checked the Ohio Board of Nursing website (I posted the link below) and RETS has lost their FULL accreditation. They now have PROVISIONAL accreditation which, according to the Board, means that they must prove that they can meet and maintain all of the Board's requirements before they will get their FULL status back.

I would love to find another school but I MUST work. There is absolutely no option for me to quit my job for nursing school. I chose Bohecker because they offer an evening program that is 15 months. I was planning to work mornings and attend school in the evenings. All other LPN and RN programs in my area are Monday-Friday from early morning to at least 4:30 PM if not later. But now I'm starting to wonder if what the admissions rep told me is accurate.

Hello,
I am attending Bohecker college and I keep reading the same thing about Bohecker losing there accreditation.
The only place i am hearing this is on this site. So I went to school and asked the DON and she says this is not true. I hope this helps>>>By the way it is a great school and very expensive. It is worth every penny.

Thanks olivial! Which Bohecker do you attend, Cincinnati or Ravenna? Are you days or evenings? I'm just wondering about the scheduling for clinicals. I can see on the BON website that RETS has provisional accreditation for the LPN program, but full accreditation for their RN program. Provisional is still accredited and means you can sit for the boards after graduating.

Yes that is correct, I attend cincinnati during the day. The clinicals for first term which is 15 weeks is on wed eve or thur day. Depending if your a day or eve student. Then i think 2nd term is 4 hrs to days a week. Clinicals are great, and everyone at clinical site is very helpful, patients are also glad your there. I have had a wonderful experience. Feel free to contact me

Hi olivial, thanks for getting back to me again. I know you are a day student, but I'm just curious, so the clinicals for evening students are in the evening during the week? Not on Saturday? I'm just trying to get everything sorted out before I start because I have 2 children and a job that I can't quit. Also, did you have to get your "titer" levels checked for measles, chickenpox, etc., when you did your physical before admission? The doctor that took care of my as a child has passed away and I can't get my shot records. I'll have to get those titers drawn and they are EXPENSIVE. Just wondering if you knew a place that does them reasonably cheap? My family doctor does not do them, so I will have to go to an Occupational/Travel med center that does not accept my insurance.

Thanks!

Lisa

Medical records don't disappear because the doctor dies, but they probably disappeared when you turned 18. It's common for childhood records to be shredded when you're 18+, mine were, ugh.
