1st quarter of LPN school...having trouble already!

Well i started school Jan 9th @ MVCTC/VA LPN school, and tomorrow begins Week 4 out of 10 weeks for the first quarter...A&P is great, Drug Therapy/dosage calculations no problem, nutrition is a breeze, our nursing lab/procedures i'm doing great! BUT nursing fundamentals is KILLING me!! the past two quizzes i've gotten in the low 80's and then the mid 70's on them...i just can't figure out why i can't pass these darn tests!!!

And to top it all off, these quizzes really don't count towards our final grade or anything, the ONLY way to pass the quarter and move on to 2nd quarter is if you pass each of your final exams with an 80 or better. now they DO give us two chances, so if i don't pass it the first time then i will have second chance (at a harder test than the first)

sorry to vent, i just wonder if this stuff will come to me when we start clinicals in 2 weeks or if i'm just not going to make it!!!

Well no one said it would be easy just make sure you do a little each day and try taping the class if allowed and listen to the tape while you read you class notes that helps me alot. When you start clinicals its just going to make more work so you need to learn how to time manage which is a good thing because this will also help you later when you start your career. Dont worry if your doing your best and study a little everyday you will be fine!!!

I used to go to ctc so I know exactly what your going through. The best advice I can give to you regarding your grades is to try to get above an 80 EVERYTIME because when it comes down to finals, those quiz and test scores DO MATTER! When I was there they averaged both of your scores together and came up with your average and that average is going to set you up for the final. So, if you go into the final with an 80 that's what you will have to get on your final to pass the subject. Believe me when I tell you, I have seen someone fail by 2 points before. IF YOU NEED ANY HELP WITH ANYTHING OR JUST NEED TO VENT, I'M HERE FOR YOU! I have been in your shoes but I made it out alive and in one piece! I just found out I passed my boards!

I went to the JVS and had some ladies from the CTC start and they liked it much better. But it will come to you. Good luck and stick to it
