But someone has to clean up your hospital room, no? :p

True - but not family members. Actually, one of our docs cleans up the room after delivering the placenta while I take care of the mom/babe. :) I usually do most of the clean up myself with the other docs and then housekeeping comes in.

Not to argue specifics here, but I think you mean, we try to make it a home like environment (adding the delivery table, stabilette, external monitor, etc sitting next to the bed). A homebirth experience, can only occur in a home, IMO. :wink2:

Yes, you are right - homelike. Actually, we are a small rural hospital and usually only have one delivery going on at a time, although there are rare exceptions to that. I think we are unique in that we can actually make it feel less institutional because we are not a big city hospital.

:angryfire OK, now this makes me mad! I'll bet he was new, uninformed or ....whatever! I got to the hospital w/my 3rd at 8cm, delivered exactly 10min later, and the running joke was...."why did you bother to come in at all"...:chuckle Of course, I was at the hopsital I worked at, but the point being...women have the right to decide!

:yeahthat: Exactly.

We had a Mom come in recently by squad who delivered at home, accidently, when one of the other nurses mentioned that I had delivered at home and they were mad because I didn't bother to come in and show off the baby, she asked if she had that option. The EMT who was still sitting there filling out paperwork, asked what would they had done if she had refused. Uh, have her sign the same refused tx form you give anyone else? He said, that he wasn't comfortable with that, and he would have called the police and had her arrested if she refused to come in. Huh??? :angryfire

Just one of the examples of how women are disempowered to make their own birth choices. :o

Yer right. Too bad we couldn't put his right testicle in a vice at home and ask him if he wanted to wait until we got to the hospital to take it out...oh wait, HE didn't want to give her a decision. :o

Klone,

I am supportive of HB but I would personally probably go to a hospital if I got pregnant again. I would also consider or maybe prefer a birth center that is right by the hospital.

My home is like 15 miles from the hospital & I am just too paranoid to do it myself. We also don't have any midwives within like 1.5 hours. With my last birth, I just stayed home a long time, was lucky enough to have an OB who is my personal friend and let me do what I wanted to at the hospital, and I only stayed 24 hours for all three of my births. I also had the same nurse that I had with #2 & loved.

I have several friends who have had homebirths and I'm all for it for them!
