Would you assist in abortions?

I am just curious. Would you ever work in an abortion clinic? Would you give pills that would cause an abortion? Thanks

Plus, I think the babies that will be mad at me in heaven will be the 23 weekers we torture for months on end in the hope that they will live a life full of suffering. Pro-life can be good or bad depending on the circumstances.

I know this is from a while back, but Fergus, you have a very good point here. Although I come out on the pro-life side of the issue, your post gave me something to think about as I would like to do NICU work one day possibly.

There's definitely two sides to the issue. Thank you for your insights.

Well your welcome. I love my babies and my job, but there are days..... I'm sure you'll love it too if you go there.

Working in an abortion clinic or assisting with abortions isn't even an option for me. I am very much against abortion. I feel that women should be educated about birth control and realize that the possibility always exists to form a child by having sex. I feel that the issue of sex today isn't as sacred as it should be, and if it were I think the amount of unwanted pregnancies would be a lot lower. I believe women should have the ability to take care of themselves and make their own choices about THEIR body, but when a woman is carrying a child, no matter what the age, it then becomes a matter of another body other than her own. I personally wouldn't want the responsibility on my shoulders to take another life or assist with it. If a woman becomes pregnant and doesn't wish for the responsibility to care for a child, give it for adoption. There are answers out there. Killing the baby isn't acceptable to me.

And this thoughtful response is why those of us who believe that abortion stops a beating heart and is therefore killing should not be made to feel guilty about making the legal choice we are given NOT to assist in an abortion.

I'm well aware that there are differing opinions on this subject regarding whether you think it is killing or not. But to say that those of us who do not wish to assist in this should do it anyway is, in my opinion, just plain wrong.

I've said this already, but no one here has ever said that they would get a job in an abortion clinic and then refuse to assist in abortions. We are just saying that we would not get a job in an abortion clinic because we do not believe in abortion and so would not assist. How in the world is that wrong?

I also said this already but I personally cannot equate a feeding tube in a person in a vegetative state with abortion. There is, for me, a huge chasm between those two examples. One prolongs life, maybe unfairly but it is still life. The other ends life.

What KIND of life though? Would a person in a vegetative state actually want to be that way?

I completely agree that nurses should not be forced into participating in abortions, and they can't be btw.

As far as the other things, you just have to make your peace with them. I do participate in the care of patients when it only means prolonging their suffering. I can live with it because I know it is the parents' choice and not mine, but for many people it is on the same level as abortion and for them.... well, they have a choice to make. Can you work in that unit or not? If you can't live with it, then you have to move on.

Another reason to educate the public about making their wishes known prior to an event like that.

You are right people should learn to take better care of themselves, but would you say that to a teenager or woman that was raped and is now pregnant. I think not... You need to think of both sides not just yours.

To those of you dreading encounters with aborted babies in heaven, how can you guarantee you'll be there? :chair: (Just thought I'd throw that out for thought)

:chuckle

I don't know why, but for some reason I sure laughed at this one!

Ohhhh these heated topics... God bless our right to our own opinions!

As long as they are not forced upon others.....

(I'm referring to people's beliefs/opinions on abortion)

Was that necessary? Jeez.

My reply was an add-on of my own opinion to austinsmom's post, and not as a personal attack to you.
