Yup I'm not used to circumsised penises, never even seen one. All I see is a newborn who has a part of them cut off. I have read various reasons why people do it but still cant understand it.

I highlighted that this was my personal opinion. I dont think people who have their sons circumsised are abusers (someone asked), I just see a kid being hurt. Maybe that's not such a clear thought but frankly my original post came after I read through almost all the thread and I was feeling emotional.

As for pericare on uncircumsised penises, well that's all I've ever done. Atm I work in LTC and the penises I've encountered in there are all in fine condition (I read on another board someone's argument being that the foreskin should be cut to prevent any infection setting in from bad hygene once the guy ends up in a nursing home).

TweetiePieRN, I'm curious why you find uncircunsised penis yucky. Is it because you've seen too many dirty ones, because it has extra flesh hanging there or some other reason?

I think calling a normal body part disgusting is harsh too, but that doesn't mean someone else has that opinion and it doesn't have to affect me.
Yes that's correct. Thank you for putting it into better wording.

Good morning. I am not sure how they do them over there in Finland, but over here there is anesthesia for the baby. My son had a block, and he slept thru the entire procedure (my mom was in the room with him). Afterwards he never showed any signs of pain or distress. He was just as mellow as he was before the procedure. Over here people usually circumcise at birth or shortly thereafter. My son was 7 or 8 days old.

All the reasons you mentioned are the reason. My husband is circ'ed so I probably never have to worry about ever thinking about this as a real issue for me. (If we remain married forever of course).

Moderator Note:

I know the subject of circumcision is very hotly debated---from both "sides", if you will . I will ask everyone here, in keeping with our Terms of Service, be polite and mind your manners, please. Also I will ask graphic posts be kept to PG-13 standards, as mandated by the TOS. If you are unclear, please refer to our TOS at the bottom of each page of the site or PM me.

Thank you for understanding and cooperating.

Actually, all babies are not given anesthesia or a pain block. We have one doc who refuses to use lidocaine or any pain med at all.

I realize that not ALL babies get the anesthesia...that is why I didn't include the word "all" in my post. I was aware of this when choosing my child's pediatrician. I chose the pediatrician for many reasons...but the fact that he does use the block was why he was chosen over the other 1 I narrowed it down to.
