Ok here is one that I picked up when I worked in childcare ...There was a little girl her name on all of the paper work was La_a. No one new how to pronounce it when her mother was asked she replied very angrily "the dash aint silent".....the childs name is La(dash)a as if that is not bad enough but to spell it with a line.. or dash as she considered it.

No offense to the person who made this post, but, along with the Jell-O twins, Female, Nosmo king, and a number of other names that have curse words in them, La-a is largely an urban legend and has been mentioned at least half a dozen times in this very thread. The common denominator is that the mother speaks poor English and is angry that she has to explain the child's name.

At any rate, the name would really be La-hyphen-a.

You probably won't believe this...
but my mother named me Cooky!!!! Pronounced 'Cookie' Everyone I have ever met in my life have pronounced it CoOoky, Cocky and Corky (actaully they even misspelled it this in the year book when I was in 1st grade. I have been teased so much. Cooky Monster, Cooky Crisp. Sugar Cooky. Hey do you want some milk with that Cooky? What type of Cookie are you Cooky? Everyone just loved to play the game, 'who stole the cookies from the cookie jar'....Cooky stole the cookies from the cookie jar. OMG. And to top it all off, my last name is Neidlow (pronounced Needlow)....which I have been suggested 'Hey Cooky, 'I-need-a-blow' Or Cooky Meatloaf....hahaha. So funny. I have heard it all, and I have learned not to give a f***!!!

Also, I have had teachers confuse my name with a black girl who's name was Ashley(we was friends). She kept calling her Cooky, and me Ashley....she is an idiot.

My sister named her baby Baiyleigh (pronounced like Bay-lee) Rae (ray). I had a child in my toddler class whose name was Preciosa, and I went to school with a girl named Tequila.

My daughter's name is Hannah, and when we picked it out I wanted something that would be cute for a 2 year old but still appropriate for a 40 year old to put on a job application.

OK, have a new one for you guys!! and I can absolutely swear it is true. I only make fun of it because the dad was such an arrogant jerk, it took every ounce of will power not to crack up!
Boy and Girl twins, named baby girl "America", told me that dad came up with both names and named her that since the baby boy was ALSO named after a country----baby boy "LUNDYN"
HAHAHAHA, laughed my butt off on the way home. it's bad enough he thinks london is a country, and then that spelling?? We so need to come up with some mandatory parenting and basic education classes for some parents that start as early in these pregnancies as possible...even 9 months! I have also taken care of an ABCDE (prononunced AB-SID-DEE) and thought my 15 year old patients baby "Abstidee" (never saw her spell it), she explained she named the baby after the word abstinence...to remind her friends!!! She actually walked the halls laboring in a shirt that said "true love waits" on the back, We cracked up when one of the nurses said "of course she's here, only the girls walking behind her got the message! LMAO, funny but in a so sad its true way!

...I'm thinking maybe English is a second language to this poster and the idea was...why do people give people names to animals and strange names to people?
