Have you seen that Discovery Channel show about a teenage boy who was totally blind from retinoblastoma, and got around by making clicking noises? He had perfected this to the point where he could ride a bicycle by himself, and did not run into anything.

I say "was" because his cancer came back, and he died recently at age 16.

Anyway, his mom's name was Aquanetta. She's in her 40s so I do not know the origin of that name. Did the product Aqua Net exist back then?

How about the newly-departed Michael Jackson's children. Prince Michael Joseph Jackson. Paris Michael Katherine Jackson. And Prince Michael II Jackson, aka Blanket.

What does it say about a parent (George Foreman also comes to mind) when they have to "brand" each and every child with their own first name?

My local paper had a 'cutest baby' competition, and in among all the Rubys and Harrisons there was a kid named:

Jed....

I. Knight

yup, Jedi Knight.

I can cut ol' George some slack....I will have to check it out, but I 'heard' that he named all his kids George because he was adopted and that was what he felt he could rightfully pass on to his kids as 'his'. Let me go snopes it.

How about "Meconium" (even though we explained to the mother what 'meconium' was, she still felt it would be a beautiful name for her daughter-haha.)

..or "Essence?"

..or "Nos mo king?" (No smoking, get it?! I'm not even kidding!)

Hope you all enjoyed a good laugh, I know I did

I still cringe when parents give their kids names that will cause confusion, ridicule or other problems to meet their own (the parents') needs. Too many people treat their kids like little billboards, using their child's name to promote a cause or stroke their egos or make some kind of declaration to the world. They come up with "kreativve spehlinng" that ensures years of clarification. Or they make some other choice that sets the kid up for all kinds of grief.

I'm not saying there shouldn't be any imagination used in naming a child. Only suggesting that parents take a look at their motives when choosing something unusual or potentially problematic and examine whose needs they are really meeting.

Extra "H"s are popular too.

Fakers are a big problem on multiple birth websites, and are easy to spot because the pregnancies are impossibly easy, the babies are enormous (i.e. quadruplets weighing over 7 pounds each), and - this is a dead giveaway - the babies are always girls, with an occasional token boy tossed in, and they have these really cutesy names with lots of "Y"s in them.
Yeah - what IS IT with all the Y's lately?? We were just reading OUR local paper this evening - small Midwestern town of about 12,000 or so - and there's one in there that's going to make this child's life a litany of explanations, corrections, mispronunciations and misspellings...........Madylyn Caryle?? (Sigh - and I also substitute teach in said school system - I see some doozies there too!)

Yep - Aqua Net has been propping up beehives, Mohawks, "Mall Bangs" (think 80's Big Hair) and so on since the 50's.......I still remember purple cans of #4 Unscented Aqua Net in my bathroom - I swear that stuff is just lacquer with some perfume in it! (It's even been recommended by miniature modelers for use on their projects to seal paint!!!)

Maybe one day he will meet my niece: Leia Elizabeth Arwen (brother is the Star Wars fan, SIL is Lord of the Rings... don't know where Elizabeth came from)
