my late grandmother, a retired rn, told me a story once that i wish i could remember in detail. i'll do my best.

a long, long time ago, a mom admired her ob and wanted to name her son after him. (let's say her sir name was jones.) the doctor's name as i recall was something like robert hipps. this mom was uneducated and the nurses, being cruel, suggested 'umbilicus' as a middle name. the child ended up with something like robert umbilicus hipps jones for a name - poor child.

I have a friend (a sort of wilted flower child) who named her baby Nova. Kind of exciting to be named for an exploding star.

OMG...y'all just made me laugh; I just remembered a "situation" from many moons ago...LOL Anyway, before I became a Nurse--I was a Paramedic for the City of "Nawlins" --that's New Orleans for y'all Yankees-- Anyway i remember going on a call into the lower end of the Socioeconomic region of the city for a Pediatric distress. Well while I was assessing the baby, my partner was getting pt info. from the mom and she handed him the medicaid card--I then had to chuckle as I heard him ask, "m'am, why did you name your baby Shithead and she quickly replied that it was pronounced "Shatheed" .

    First post, couldn't resist.

Teenage girl who couldn't wait to get a smoking passed named her barely 5 pounder daughter "Onlee". I asked her what the named meant and she said "She's my one and only". Yikes!

I didnt hear it myself but according to one of the Lab girls she worked in another hospital and one of the medicaid mommas was delivering her second baby. She named that baby Vulva and her oldest daughter had been named Urethra. I was surprised that you can even be allowed to name a baby such things but I guess people do. Poor baby!

My sister-in-law's name is Princess. It is extremely irritating to explain to others that is her real name and not a nickname :smackingf
