As an extern one of my patients named her son "Semaj Nafis". She asked me if I liked it and I lied and asked her where she got it. She said she was looking at some baby name books and got Semaj because it is James spelled backwards. And she said she just liked how Nafis sounded. In our area (rural SC), we are getting a lot of ppl naming their babies words spelled backwards. I swear 10 people named their daughters Nevaeh (heaven spelled backwards) while I was there.
just had a naveah here the other day... didn't even catch on to the backwards spelling, mom had to tell me lol

This thread is a hoot. Though I do not have any unusual names to add, my grandmother gave me a hard time when she found out I was naming my oldest son Angel. Not because it was unusual but because she lives in the northeast and according to her this is a female name not a male name. I tried to explain to her that its a boys name too. She shortented it and nicknamed hit ange....

My name is Kelly Marie. Kelly after Charlie's Angels and Marie after Marie Osmond. My grandmother's nickname is Nanu - after Mork and Mindy. The funniest part about this is I named my child Caleb Aidan. Aidan, after Sex and the City's Aidan. Don't hate me!:chuckle

I did clinical rotations on an Indian reservation, and a lot of the girls had feminized versions of the father's name. "Kevinette" or "Richanna" or things like that. I have not seen things like that elsewhere. Oh, sure, you see Danielle or Roberta or Michelle but you never know; maybe Mom picked that name before meeting Dad!

There was one in our area that was named Sh#thead, it was pronounced sha theed but who knew that when they saw it written. The parents should have been stopped but sadly they were not. A family member in another town 'brought' them the name (a common practice in our area). Shameful.

In my high school there was a girl who wanted to name her daughter "Alize Diamond Moet" her three favorite things (thankfully she was talked out of it)
