I have been a tele nurse for 3 years.. I am hoping to get into OB sooner than later lol. I was wondering what I could be doing to make my resume look more appealing to them. My hospital has a union so unfortunately it's all seniority based but I am looking around at other nearby hospitals.

I am taking the S.T.A.B.L.E. program next month.. I am planning on taking the online course by AWHONN - Intro to fetal monitoring. I want to take the NRP but it's rarely offered in my area.

Any other suggestions?

Maybe you can float down to the OB unit whenever possible? It is a catch-22 trying to meet the min experience requirment when no will give you experience! Yes NRP, Fetal Monitoring, Stable, all look great but maybe you can find an OB class at the local community college. That always looks good on the resume and shows recent education/hands- on experience.

What kind of OB class? The Community colleges just have the normal nursing school rotation class..

What about an RN Refresher course? I know that probably sounds crazy seeing as you are currently working--- but Ive seen it on resumes and Ive seen it get results.

hm. I suppose I could. I only graduated in 2008 though lol

Why would she need a refresher, that's silly! And very expensive specially when she's currently working.

Yes, a refresher sounds Crazy right? Im just saying that Ive seen it happen, actually more then once. Ive personally seen the Resumes. My first thought was "Re-entry RN," then read a little further and saw it was MedSurg going for ER or PACU switching to LRDP.

AWHONN, NRP, STABLE if interested in newborns/couplet care. Also, lactation or birth education would help. Even when the market wasn't as tight, it could be difficult to get into OB. So, give yourself a break, and some time. Keep trying, your experience in other areas will pay off.
