Student needing a foot in the door...

Specialties Ob/Gyn

Hi there! New to the boards. I am completing my pre-reqs to apply to nursing school, but I already know that I want to do L&D. I have been checking job postings and many of them say at least 1 year L&D experience preferred. How can I get experience or get my foot in the door? Any suggestions on getting started? The only experience in a L&D setting I have is I have given birth to 2 kids! I have a bachelor's degree in Communications, but I am starting new into the healthcare field. Thanks!

If that what you want then I would apply for a job in your local hospital that has a L&D unit. Possibly get your CNA while waiting to get out of school and work as an aide. Employers are much more apt to hire from within, it saves money and promotes continuity. Good luck!
