Should the nurse be doing this?

We had a pt who had several suspicious mammograms since last Fall. After the latest, my doc decided to refer her to a well-known cancer center to see a breast onc. surgeon for biopsy. I was told to call the pt and do this. I brought up the suggestion of bringing pt and her husband to the office for discussion, but my doc said it is hard for them to get to the office. (and it is- there are transportation/disability issues). However, this still made me very uncomfortable. I feel like they should hear this sort of thing from the doc? Even a phone call from the doc might be the better way to go?

The other doc in our office does this himself.

Sure, the nurse can do this. You're not diagnosing cancer, you're referring the patient to a specialist for further management.
