  1. Will tocolytic therapy cause the fetus to have neonatal hypoglycemia?

    I'm not sure, but I know that terbutaline can cause the gestational diabetic's mother's blood sugar to go out of control and get very high, so as with any infant of a diabetic mom, I guess the infant could easily develop that post-birth hypoglycemia.

    Terbutaline can. It's listed in potential effect on the fetus. Therefore, you look for it and watch the neonate carefully. Likely, you would be anyhow , if a preterm baby of a mom on terb therapy is born. Our protocols cover blood sugar testing quite thoroughly and preterm infants and those born with moms on terb or mag are covered.
