I just been notified that I have been request to work monday to do C/S on 22 yr old primagravida with cardiac condition recent MI and HX CHF,pt also has family history of congenital cardiac problems. I got the feeling this can get real interesting to say the least. to me this is a much higher risk case than we usually see here. I was told that is why they called me in for it. being I have the most critical care ,ICU and high risk OB experience here.

needless to say I am a little concerned about this one. what are your thoughts and reccomendations on this scenario.:)

Really Mark, they should nominate you nurse of the year for this!!!

Glad they are doing better. Sorry I didn't see the update posts sooner.

Wow! That is so caring with you staying overnight til she is discharged! I've never heard of any nurse doing that before! I second the nomination for nurse of the year! Way to go on a limb for your patients!:D

illeniccup-- glad you got your answer ,and thanks for the compliment. see men can have empathy also:)

thanks everyone for the kind words and nomination for nurse of the year:). I just did it because i felt it best for the patient and i love my job and my patients:)

thanks again everyone and have a wonderful day

Hi mark_LD_RN

This is a sad note for you. 2 weeks ago we had a lady in her early thirties that came in in labor and while we were getting her ready for her repeat c/s she went into CHF we took her straight to the OR and while they were doing her epidural her water broke and she had an embolism. Need to say we were doing and c/s and a code at the same time. It was no fun. But the good thing is that the mom survied. She was and is a sick lady, but she is living. She was just moved out of ccu 2 days ago and had to go back because her b/p went up and she started having seizures. She is not out of the woods yet, but we won't give up on her either.

also mark I agree with everyone else that you should get nurse of the year award. keep up the good work,,,,,

You are an angel for this pt and her family.....Kudos to you..Also, the same goes for the people upstairs who are willing to allow you to do it....

thanks mother baby, and yes administration was good about it, once it got cleared by our cheif of staff,it was approved. I even got paid for the extra hours i worked. i volunteered to sleep here at no cost to them, just in case i was needed. all went well mom and baby went home. had very cute baby:). the patient wanted to deliver here because her sister and siome friends did and i was her nurse. it took a little doing but it was worth it, everyone is happy:)

It does feel wonderful when people have had a good experience (in your case Mark, sounds like a great experience) and ask for you specifically for themselves and their family and friends. I am happy that we make such a difference and try to remember that during those times when one can surely feel differently....You seem like an amazing role model Mark, and keep up the good work. Those folks here and perusing the site who wonder what it takes and how it feels to be nurses, could surely take lessons from you! {{{}}} Ever thought of writing a book? I am in the midst of one which hallmarks nurses and our experiences....Sounds as though a journal kept by Mark (and all of us really), would certainly be something to read and be inspired by...

Good for you, Mark. These kinds of experiences are what make us keep on nursing. I think this mom was one lucky chick to have you as her nurse and guardian angel!

Motherbaby- -I have actually thought about writing a book a couple of times. but writing and typing are my weakness.so i never persued it.

I try to be a good role model. I love it when students are around I enjoy talking with them and letting them see how and what I do. I recently was told by a student that the instructor their tells all her students about me. I feel honored ,but embarressed by being in the spot light like that.

thanks every one for your kind words and support, it is always appreciated! as we all know some time we all need support:)

Mark, I CAN write AND type.. Already writing a book with a nurse practioner friend- a light hearted ( if there is such a thing) at menopause and how it feels...If you are interested in talking about writing a book or putting some thoughts and experiences together, think about letting me know. Would love to try it....
