Is it possible to do maternity nursing in a clinic?

Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone could answer some of my questions. My dream is to become an RN and work in postpartum/couplet care. I volunteer in the hospital and love it, but I was also considering a clinic setting. And it got me to thinking because I have never really seen a postpartum/couplet care CLINIC, and I was wondering if there is even such a thing as a clinic for Postpartum/Couplet Care. And if not, are there any clinics that specialize in the care of infants/babies?? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much :)

The obvious come to mind; OB office, peds office but for couplet care the only thing I can think of is a free standing birthing center (not hospital). I'm not sure how popular they are in your area tho.

There are no couplet care clinic jobs. In clinic as an OB RN I do NST's, injections and advice. This is almost always in relation to the mother while pregnant or mom problems (such as bleeding) after pregnancy. All baby questions go to the RN in the pedi office, but that clinic is for kiddos 0-18. The only clinic/day hour postion that could fit would be the lactation nurses. They see both mom and baby post partum to work on breastfeeding only. That might be a spot for you, but you have to have the patience of Mother Theresa

Perhaps a birth center might have what you are looking for although i think couplet care only exists in a hospital for the duration of the stay after the birth. If you worked with midwives you might get to experience the mom baby aspect with a birth center birth but they usually don't stay too long. A few of my friends have birthed in birth centers and only stayed there about half a day after the birth, but the centers provide follow up care and sometimes make home visits. Good luck!
