PBDS Assessment

Has anyone taken the PBDS Assessment test for newborn nursery in the dallas/ft. worth area? I have to take this test next wednesday and I am nervous. Does anyone have any tips or information to review?

I used to administer these tests. The best advice I can give you is to be what you would consider ridiculously detailed. You can't just say "give dextrose" or whatever, you have to say "after doing a 2 patient identifier and checking the 5 rights, wipe the administrative port with alchohol, allow to dry and administer medication. Flush with saline if needed. Dispose of syringe in proper container."

This is just an example, but you get the idea. Don't worry to much if you don't pass the first time. I have seen nureses with years of experience fail.

Good Luck!

I agree. Be very very specific. For example you have to say listen to lung sounds with a stethoscope, wear sterile gloves for X procedure, after checking the 5 rights, yada yada yada. Don't worry about it too much. Good luck.

I'm in Dallas also and have to take it this week. I'm pretty nervous myself.

I took the test on wednesday and got my results today. I did fair. The test was very hard, I felt so drained afterwards. For my job, I have to take the video portion again in September. I agree with the other posts, you need to be very specific, type fast and try and see as many videos as you can. Don't run out of time like me. My educator said today that even if you get the wrong diagnosis but follow through with excellent interventions and rationales for your picked diagnosis you get points. So answer all the questions regardless if you think you are right or not.
