ok. color me dumb...but what are nurse techs? what do they do? i'd like to ask our hospital if they use them but.....i need to have an idea of what the job entails first.

please PLEASE PLEASE shed some light for me.

i work in the business office now and i am so FRIGGEN BORED!!!!!! seems like i will NEVER get from the office to patients....

anyhoo...enough of my whining...please give me a clue about what nurse techs do..

THANKS :kiss

our nurse techs do pt vital signs, set up delivery tables cean patients and rooms, order supplies restock supplies. and when trained they insert foley caths, dc iv,s etc.hope this helps. anyone else welcome to post what their techs do. i may have forgot a thing or 2 :)

ours also apply the external fetal monitors, bathe babies, feed babies, do shave preps for c sections, set up the baby warmers before deliveries, do peri care, and sometimes assist with breastfeeding...at our hospital they do not do catheters or dc IV's though....but I am sure that there ARE many things I have forgotten to mention. We have a Labor/delivery/Postpartum/Nursery/and clean female med-surg unit, and they do all the CNA stuff, plus additional things needed for OB

thanks shandy and mark...

i have a call in to the OB dept to see if they use techs.

We do all of the above, but we do not do any CNA duties. We follow a nurse directly until we are trained and then we allowed to have our own pt under the strict supervision of another nurse. Lets you get your feet wet w/o falling in head first.

This is past tense, though, as one of my fellow students/co-worker made a serious error. Her nurse was fired and we were all told that we could no longer work in the OB dept as NTs. We could as a CNA. I left and took a job in Med Tele/Oncology.
