nursing student --> future lactation consultant?

  1. Hi all,

Im reading on the IBLCE website and I am having trouble understanding some things. I was wondering for where it says, "Complete at least 90 hours of education in human lactation and breastfeeding within the 5 years immediately prior to applying for the exam." What specific education does that mean?

For more background, I'm currently a senior BSN student and I am planning on becoming a mother-baby nurse but I have an interest in eventually becoming a lactation consultant and was looking for further clarification about the requirements.

    TIA!!

It needs to be education that provides CERPS (Lactation-specific CEUs). One CERP = 1 hour of lactation education. There are several online courses that fit the bill.

    These are high quality courses

    BreastEd Courses

I use them for my L-CERPS

Or take the Certified Lactation Counselor course which will get you ~45 hours and some excellent education.
