I don't have any books off the top of my head for that one, but there are a bunch of threads here on allnurses.com about recent news articles about the controversy.

here's a link to one of the news stories: http://au.news.yahoo.com/a/-/latest/...d-in-canberra/
excellent...ill continuing reporting my research later. Haha, i migh sound difficult in choosing topics, it is just me, my personality, i want to prove it to the girl who took my topic that i can do a even better job than her without using that topic

I think we've all been in that kind of situation in nursing school. Don't get too caught up in the competitiveness, though.. It's important to keep in mind that you and all your classmates will very shortly (since you're in your 4th year!) be colleagues in a professional setting. Be as compassionate with your classmates as I'm sure you are with your patients.

(and congrats on being almost done with nursing school!)

Thank you for your reply. Yes you are right, I dont consider myself having very good communication skills over all due to my family background. Im very senstivie, easily lightened up, straight forward, etc....doesnt necessary mean i do a bad job on paper but dont have good friends in this program....i feel they isolate me and take advantage of me and i dont really bother to talk to them...now it is almost over and i just tell myself, zipper up my mouth, talk less, do more. Hopefully i will find a hospital that i can fit in later

I think I would choose the twin/multiples topic but I am bias. I recently had twins. There are so many issues with multiple pregnancies that people very rarely hear of natural twin deliveries and complication free pregnancies. How a person looks at and interprets a multiple pregnancy can vary from one person to another. Not sure how or what research you would be able to find, as most research is about all the bad things that can happen, with little room for any positives. I hope you find something just as interesting as your previous topic and I am sure that you will do great, you seem very determined.

I actually happen to think that group beta strep is a very interesting topic. It seems the HCP take for granted the antibiotics for GBS is the thing to do, when in reality there are many risks, drawbacks, and serious implications of widespread prophylaxis. I did a major project on it this year but you can find more info on CDC website or by searching journals for info on GBS prophylaxis.

I think pre-E and HELLP is very interesting. One of those things that can turn on a dime - Mom can go from being relatively stable and asymptomatic to crashing in a matter of hours.

I work on maternity so obstetrical emergencies, gestational diabetes, and GBS are some of the topics that peak my interest and are pertinent to my practice. But if you wanted to do something different maybe you could do something on infertility. There are so many new treatments out there. If you know couples or could find couples who have gone through fertility treatment you could really bring the emotional aspect of wanting a child into your report. Having real life stories would make an otherwise dry topic interesting provided they are willing to share their experience. Have you started your clinical yet? Maybe you could get suggestions from the nurses if you are comfortable asking them.

I think any of the topics are good but I think that the topic Genetic Disorders e.g. down syndrome, trisomy 13, 18, cystic fibrosis, prader willi syndrome ect would be good, you could bring in pictures and assessment skills as well looking at how diff cultures handle and care for situations. That should keep people awake.
