Need advice regarding finding a good Ob and hospital in Manhattan

My daughter is pregnant with my first grandchildand has moved to Manhattan. She needs to find an OB/Hosp. Having worked L&D for 20 years, I know the best person to ask is a fellow L&D nurse. So does anyone living in Manhattan (upper) have any suggestions for a doctor and hospital? Your help is greatly appreciatied, Thanks

I delivered my 2 kids in Lenox Hill Hospital via C-section. Great place! I believe the nurse to patient ratio is 3 to 1 and if you are a high risk it's 2 to 1. You can get a private room if you want one. But your daughter should also consider where she lives in Manhattan because Lenox Hill is on 77th St and anyone from the city can tell you that traffic is hell during the day time and even worse during rush hour.

New York Presbyterian! Either the Columbia branch on Upper West Side or Cornell on Upper East Side.

Thanks for the replies regarding hospitals. I think she is leaning towards Lenox Hill Hospital. We could use the name of a doctor. Having worked L&D, it makes me nervous for her to pick a doctor without any knowledge of them. That is why I am turning to this forum, hoping to find an L&D nurse that could give us some direction. Even if someone could give us a list of doctors that they would recommend. We would start at the top of the list ;-) Thanks again for taking the time to reply.

I am biased but I would recommend a midwife over an OB. Better patient satisfaction reported with lower rates of complications (infection, episiotomy, c-section, etc). You can find a midwife at www.midwife.org

How about calling Lenox Hill's L&D department in the middle of the night and asking a nurse what she thinks? The RN's who have to deal with the docs all the time would be the best source of information. It's a little weird, but I have gotten a few calls like this while working.
