Can't say as my first name is exactly unusual... just the spelling - Roxan. My mother tells the story of arguing with the nurses when I was born. They insisted the name should be spelled 'Roxanne.' Mom would have no part of it and it stayed 'Roxan.' My middle name is an old one. Mom wanted to name her first daughter for the angels and my great aunt Honor was as close to an angel as she knew :angel2: (Aunt Honor died when I was only a few months old. I never got to know her).

My oldest daughter's name is 'Priscilla Dawn' with the nickname 'Pat' (named/nicknamed for a good friend). Everyone assumes her first name is 'Patricia.'

Shortly after my grandparents passed away 4 years ago, I discovered I was pregnant with #2 (#1 was 9 at the time). If it was a girl, I wanted to name call her 'Jordon Elsie' ('Elsie' after my grandmother). Hubby nixed it immediately - just couldn't wrap around 'Elsie.' I thought it was beautiful. She turned out to be called 'Cristi Leigh' (Cristi for her godfather's daughter - 'Christy' and Leigh for my mother - middle name 'Lee').

When I was a camp nurse a couple of summers ago one of my camp kid's names was Dulcinahdaedeldaboseau (first name) Rainbow (middle name) and King (last name). We just called her Dulci. There was a couple in our church that had three children and the oldest was John, middle girl Latrina, and youngest girl Toiletta. Those poor kids and they were the nicest people, I guess you'd have to be!

My oldest son who is twelve is named Trevin. Now I don't consider it a strange name, but he is the only one I know who has it. Has anyone else ever heard this name?

I have a few to share, and strangely, none of these are ethnic names. Might have seemed less odd if they were though.
My son went to school with girls named Jinx, Promise, and Shadow.
A lady I knew years ago named her son Tiger Dare
My step-sister named her son Talon Stain
When I was working, a client had a daughter named Alizaniniah

I love the names Olivia and Oliver. I thought better of naming my children with those names considering my last name is Oyler! They'd be called Olive Oyl for Heaven's sake!

i was talking to an ed nurse the other day who had a son about a year ago... i asked what his name was and she told me culyer (call-yer) and i thought the name wasnt to bad... but then she continued to tell me that she is married to a resident and her son was conceived in the on-call room... but she didnt think "on-call" was a suitable name for him.

I heard of a Mom who visited the Health Dept for care years ago. She really liked two of the names she saw posted, and happily used them both when she delivered twin girls.

She named them Sy-PHILLis and Gon-ARhea.

My husband went to hs with a girl named Gonarhea

That's just wrong! Do people just hate their kids? How can you look into a sweet little baby face and say "Gonarhea." Maybe the disease like changed her life or something.
